Guest jason07 Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) I made a quick video of my current setup, to show anyone who might be new-ish to the Omnia that it's possible to almost completely bypass the native WinMo programs. Have a look here; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ7QKf3OxEM Pretty simple to setup, only the PointSense UI that can be a bit tricky. Let me know what u think. EDIT: Check posts 6,7,8 for more detail on the programs, including PointSense Install Instructions. Edited March 1, 2010 by jason07
Guest Abqcub Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 That is just beautiful, could you go in to more detail on the programs and setup you are using? I'd be very interested in setting up the same layout.
Guest lupus_hegemonia Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Great... Why don't you FILL US UP with details what you did, m8?
Guest lutharigno Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Nice vid. would be nice if you could post more details of your setup. Will search forums for pointui and see what i can do on my own.
Guest Wynnded Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 That is really very well done! Thanks for sharing. That really shows how flexible the Omnia is.
Guest wasubi Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 QLD REPRESENT! :( lol very nice mate. Whos rom u running it on? I tried Pointsense UI few weeks back, but the experience wasnt that good after a while, dunno maybe i did sumtin wrong?! Got laggy, and the interface just seemed to get annoyin to navigate for some reason, in the end i wasnt overly satisfied. Hows Landscape on the homepage go with your setup? Do all the icons just become jumbled up or do they neatly line up when turned on the side. Looks very fluent i must admit, cant get over how smooth it looks. U may have converted me back lol. Think u got alot of people interested ere, so now u may have to spill the beans and the setup.........job well done !
Guest Billus Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) Maybe I can help but I did just flick thru so there may be some programs that I may have skiped. S2U2 for unlock screen, PointUI (with the PointSense theme) for the main interface, Omnia Lite programs to replace the default Windows Mobile programs, Opera Mobile as the phones internet browser, Resco Photo Manager as the photo viewer and Ph0nex for the phone and contacts manager. Guest jason07 Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Lol yep that pretty much sums it up. Although the ROM is Anzo Ramarium's 28227 PFC. Link here. http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general...m-update-14-02/
Guest jason07 Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) Ok so I've re-read the other posts, and figured I'd give a little more detail on setting up PointSense (that's the hardest part of the lot). First, download and install PointUI Home 2 from here. I installed it to My Storage. Then run PointUI once, go to the options page, click About -> Disclaimer -> Exit. Then download the PointSense package (attached). Unzip, extract all to My Storage -> Program Files (overwrite all). Restart PointUI. It SHOULD automatically setup the PointSense theme. Woo you're half way there! Next, click the bottom right + sign. Click 'Add Screen'. Now hold down in the middle of the screen. Choose a widget to add (obviously you'll need a clock). Play around with the widgets for a bit. Try downloading the messaging widget (attached) and copying all the files to their corresponding folders in My Storage. You can change the settings of widgets by long-pressing whichever one you want. Browse http://community.pointui.com to find some specialised icon sets (the are .jif files, specific to PointUI) to change your icons. Enjoy. Guest lupus_hegemonia Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Well done for the updated details, m8s! I was thinkin' about if that UI was PointUI 2... So, I was right, then... I was always like PointUI, FAR MORE than SPB (I don't know HOW it's soooo popular!) and I think PointUI is good as much as M2D. I never took a look to that WAD shell, though... Anyways... Since I'm Hellen ("Greek") and I'm using my own language's texting, wich versions of PointUI are supporting Unicode texts? 'Cause many countrymen found quite many bugs with texting (in Contacts, in SMS etc.) Can you people gimme an intel about that issue? Thxs in advance.
Guest Abqcub Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 A little off topic but how is Pointsense compared to SPB 3.5 as far as memory consumption and performance. It seemed very smooth, and I might be considering it as a replacement for SPB

It seemed very smooth, and I might be considering it as a replacement for SPB Far better and looks better. Consumes much more less ram and runs pretty smoothly. Personally, I've never warmed up to SPB Mobile Shell and I haven't really used PointUI since the old 6.1 days, I prefer the titanium interface mainly because it's simple to use. But yea, for looks + themes + performance + usability I can confidently say that PointUI is the clear winner against Mobile Shell.
Guest La Traviata Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) I haven't tried Pointsense, but I did try a number of other PointUI themes and found them very buggy compared to SPB. Lots of little things, some quite basic, like cities not showing the correct the time zone/local time and weather applets not recognising major cities like London. I also didn't like that SMS and email alerts share the same icon, non-English characters in the message applet displayed garbled and PointUI generally seemed more power hungry than SPB3.0 (might be different for 3.5). There's an in-depth thread on Pointsense, including installation advice, here: http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...2-make-it-mine/ There's also a Sense theme for SPB here: http://pocketnow.com/software-1/get-sense-...-windows-mobile Edited March 1, 2010 by La Traviata
Guest maf107ezk0 Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Ok, I only have one question with PointUI - how to update the weather? I have selected the city it only shows NO DATA :( TIA.
Guest raza1 Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Ok, I only have one question with PointUI - how to update the weather? I have selected the city it only shows NO DATA :( TIA. Go to this site; http://www.accuweather.com/world-index-for...NL007|EINDHOVEN and copy the last symbols for your own city into the weather program.
Guest jason07 Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Ok, I only have one question with PointUI - how to update the weather? I have selected the city it only shows NO DATA :( TIA. Nah all you need to do to update weather is long press the right side softkey (+), choose "update interval" then hit "update now". Then it will auto update every 4, 8 hours or whatever you choose. Lots of little things, some quite basic, like cities not showing the correct the time zone/local time and weather applets not recognising major cities like London. I also didn't like that SMS and email alerts share the same icon. The creator of PointSense has done a LOT of work to the base PointUI interface. The cities list is now exceptional (MANY more to choose from), and you have a lot more options for SMS/email alerts. There's even a tweak that you can find that lets you slide down the top bar to view any current alerts (including number of unread SMS/emails). It's a lot better than the standard PointUI. Essentially, if PointSense wasn't around, I wouldn't use PointUI...

It seemed very smooth, and I might be considering it as a replacement for SPB FINALY!!!!!! ANOTHER PERSON saying the same with me! I thought I was... "666" in greek OMNIA communities, when I've start "cursing" SPB 3.5!!! EVERY BODY (GREEK) BELIEVES, SPB is "the best"! I say... it SUCKS big time! Same here, about PointUI & Manila...

Guest GazzaM Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 What is used behind the Message widget, because when I run that and choose read or create message it drops me into ordinary old Outlook mobile... ???
Guest lupus_hegemonia Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 I'm copy-pasting a post 'o mine, keep it mind here too, and please reply me, lads... Well... I've re-flashed my ROM (I'm using KC's 6.1 build 21001 from OMNIA II) and I want to customize it. I've start installing my favority apps (iContact final edition, SPB keyboard, HTC Album, etc.), I made my settings, my personal sounds/ringtones/wallpapers/taskbars... and now I want to choose an UI & lockscreen. Since I didn't flash 6.5, I don't have that beutiful and "light" 6.5s' lockscreen, so I'm going to install S2U2. What's the most stable ver. of S2U2, people?... ...Also, I want (as I said) an UI app, so I'm probably going to use M2D or PointUI... What's the most stable ver. of these two apps? I'm a bit confused now, because I have many ver. of these two UIs and I can't recall which was the most stable one. Also, about PointUI, what's the difference between FREE & PRO edition? Anyone, please? And finally, what's your opinion, which more apps should I install for MORE FINGER-FRIENDLY resualts? Thxs in advance, lads. Any help?
Guest Abqcub Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Just spent the past hour trying to set up PointUI, and I gotta say it has a lot of potential but at its current stage its not incredibly user friendly. By that I mean I almost threw my phone into a wall just trying to set up a the widgets. I don't know if i installed something wrong or what. For now I'm just sticking with SPB with a sense theme
