Guest brack Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 I'm new to android world, had my HP 614c for a little over an year experimented a lot with WM6 and then with WM6.5 I didnt notice much of the difference in performance between using only internal space for applications or internal and SD card while using that smartphone , then I purchased T-Mobile Pulse a little more then a month ago, and I liked that this was not Windows, as I'm more familiar with Linux cli. Well, after using the T-Mobile Pulse for a first week I noticed that the phone keeps complaining on the lack of space, and I cannot install new software. All of it happened after installing somewhat around 80 applications (!!!) I had around 200 on my WM6 device. That frustration and google led me to modaco site and I've got ROMs from here with A2SD support. But now I have another issue - the performance have decreased quite noticeably. I have 115 apps installen, no swap, 512Mb ext4 partition on my 16GB sd card and start of the dialer in Vanilla version causes black screen and no reaction from the phone, and on the T-Mobile style rom it just takes long. The camera application starts 30 sec. (!!!) After using CardioTrainer or other heavy app I wait for home screen to appear for around 5 sec. I only have 120 contacts, didnt try to install different home screens or dialers, but dont really think it will help. When I dont use a2sd then I have to cut down the number of apps and keep thinking about memory before installing anything, I dont like this feeling. Are there any other solutions except for a2sd to increase memory for apps? Maybe cut down the number of preinstallen applications? I know how to use adb to remove apps but I dont know which ones are important to leave and which I will never use. Are there are any other areas where the system can be shaved?
Guest Daz555 Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 (edited) What SD do you have? I am running with a Class6 Transcend 8GB and apps are faster from the card then they were when using the internal memory. One thing to be careful of on homescreens is the number of widgets you have as too many can definitely hurt performance. Also get something like Advanced Task Killer that will allow you to easily kill background applications which can eat up battery and performance. Edited March 2, 2010 by Daz555
Guest brack Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 What SD do you have? I have 16GB microSDHC Turbo Series - CLASS 6 purchased in Germany, I noticed the widgets performance drawback, so, I have standard clock three PureCalendar widgets showing two calendars and Astrid tasks, "Battery Status free" widget which I use for WiFi and GPS toggle, Brigteriffic widget and 9 folders. All those are on three home screens. So, it looks to me like it is minimal config.
Guest brack Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Is there any list of files in MCR which are safe to remove after good thinking about necessity of their usage? Other words I want to get kind of "light" version of MCR.
Guest Daz555 Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Just to eliminate the sd card as a problem, take it out of the phone, plug it into your PC and run H2testw on it.
Guest brack Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Just to eliminate the sd card as a problem, take it out of the phone, plug it into your PC and run H2testw on it. Tested, everything is fine, no errors on card. Yet another question - are there any light home screens, and/or dialers that I could use instead canvas? or it will be loaded on top of canvas, thus canceling lightness effect?
Guest steelgrey75 Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Bear in mind the Pulse is an Android entry level phone. If you want greater performance then perhaps you should have bought a phone with a better specification. I mean dont get me wrong, the Pulse is a great phone for the money, but its certainly not the best Android device out there. My advice is to get a better model.
