Guest dekraan Posted March 2, 2010 Report Posted March 2, 2010 Hello there, my question probably isn't all that smart, since I know that Android works with .apk, but can a .cab file still be installed onto a HTC Hero, one way or the other? Might this be possible with the new update to 2.0 (or 2.1?). Or is there a way to transform a .cab file into a .apk? This is a silly suggestion from an even more silly person, but installing a Windows Mobile program on a SD card in a windows phone, and then moving this card into a Android phone, won't fix it, I presume? :(

Figured as much, and thanks all for making me laugh :( (hmm rewriting it, seems impossible, for someone who knows nothing of this..) The maker doesn't have an android version, nor any plans of making one. Which I find somewhat strange, since as far as I am concerned, Android is currently doing very well! Guest Vido.Ardes Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 Actually it's more akin to putting a CD in a dishwasher - it's not the right thing in the wrong format, it's totally the wrong object. Android apps use a different language so there is no chance it will ever work without some sort of emulator. What does the program actually do?

The program I would like to install is Pocket Fritz, a chess-program. Although there are some half decent apps in the market, there are none that are this strong, or give you the possibility to analyse your own games on the go (along with many other extra options). The other bigger chessprograms (like Shredder, Hiarcs, ChessGenius) also lack an android-program or - as far as they told me - the intention to create one. I had ChessGenius on my HTC S710, but on my Hero I cannot find any decent alternatives. Thats also why I'm wondering if Android will really be as big as I think/hear. It's not exactly a killer application. If all your missing is a game, try 'Abduction'... very addictive! :( Edited March 3, 2010 by volatile_ink

PS: I rule at abduction, when choosing the 'kids' level! :(
