Guest .hack_infection Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 I had to uninstall mobile shell because I was almost completely out of memory(im back to cf03 for the moment). I tried to install mobile shell to various locations with no success. I really hate the standard cf03 interface and would love to have spb back, but I don't have the memory. Also what can I do to increase the device memory?
Guest JaCoL Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 use a HTC Task Manager or better a WkTASK to kill running proces !! SPB too max 7-8 MB of memory! U must kill runnin in back process ! then u have more free memory
Guest .hack_infection Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Thanks for the reply. I have since figured out how to install mobile shell to my storage card. It's slightly slower, but it works.

Also what can I do to increase the device memory? Do you know what is taking so much space on your device memory? I'm using Lioryte's 28232 i910 rom and a fresh flash gives me around 170mb to work with. After Installing all the apps i normally use to my device memory, including SPB Mobile Shell, i still have around 120mb free. I install all of my applications except for a few games to my device. And keep all of my music, pictures, .cabs, and basically anything else on the 8gb My Storage. Maybe you have lots of ringtones/.mp3's on your device memory??

Guest .hack_infection Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 when you go to settings/system/memory what does your Storage and Program readout show? it says 24.82 megs for storage and 54.59 megs for program after a soft reset.
Guest RoyalDrew Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 it says 24.82 megs for storage and 54.59 megs for program after a soft reset. Not sure what to tell you to do. If you were able to install it to your storage card then it doesn't seem to be related to your RAM "memory", it seems to be how much actual data storage on your device. I've never had my storage as low as 24 megs and i wouldn't like it to be that low either. But i also don't install a lot of stuff on my i910 and try to use roms that give me plenty of room to work with. IMO if you keep having issues i would flash to a cleaner Rom that takes out a lot of the bloat of the original CF03. I would almost guarantee satisfaction with the latest Lioryte Rom for i910's :(
Guest .hack_infection Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 I would flash to a custom rom, but I need to have cf03 until I get a new battery from verizon.
Guest claus1953 Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the reply. I have since figured out how to install mobile shell to my storage card. It's slightly slower, but it works. I am very interested to move my SPB Mobile Shell to My Memory or to Storage Card myself, as i have the same memory problems as you, my memory is Of the 88.17 available MB of storage, 82.02 are used, (program 55.58 used of total 97.21 MB). I have installed all of my programs to My Memory, only SPB MS not. I was thinking to flash a new ROM with a better memory repartition, but i also read about problems with GPS, BT and also with the front camera with most of the ROM's. Also will everything what is inside My Memory remain untouched? I am not at all familiar with Samsung flashing, as it is different as for HTC devices (I flashed dozens of ROM's on my Elfin), so will the radio for example stay untouched too? I read the topic about flashing but have still lots of doubts. Also could someone recommend a good WM 6.5 ROM, maybe one not stripped of all Samsung goodies? -------------------- Samsung Omnia i900 Stock ROM bought 24.feb.2010 Edited March 8, 2010 by claus1953
Guest .hack_infection Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 To install spb to a different location, first uninstall it. Then using file explorer, delete the folder that spb ms creates when you installed it(it's either under application data or program files, I can't remember which. Wherever it is, it'll be empty. Delete it). Then you are free to install spb ms wherever you want. As for your rom questions, I am actually enjoying the stock rom again. I don't plan on using a custom rom for awhile. But, I did enjoy having 6.5. As for a rom with all the samsung apps, most of them are removed by the chefs, since most people don't have a need for, say, shozu, or smart converter. So it's up to you. I would recommend looking at www.omniarom.com, there are a few I900 chefs there. Take a look at what they have to offer.

Guest lupus_hegemonia Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Agreed with others comments... I didn't like SPB from the beggining; I preffer M2D or a standard Titunium or if you using 6.1, a SIMPLE Today screen with tones of plugins and custom wallpaper, dear author.

That creates two SPB MS folders one in device memory and the other on My Memory, i will try to install again on Storage card.
Guest claus1953 Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 I tried to install to Storage Card, selected that during install, but it did install in device memory again. Therefore i better gave up until my low memory issue can be solved, or until i find a way to move SPB MS to storage card. So i uninstalled MS again and now use iPhoneToday. My free memory increased some wopping 14 MB.....

I read in another thread here on Modaco, that Samsung reserves a lot of RAM for the radio operation (if i recall right around 40%). That would explain why there is so little memory left, even when you install almost nothing on the device memory.
