absolute beginner - Andriod htc hero

Right guys,,

I Need some help,

My wife is registered blind and is now really struggling with her new hero, I need a step by step guide to get this phone to talk, IE read messages and contact details etc etc,

Can anyone help me out? i have been looking around for software but although i got my spv c500 to talk the time with an app from Modaco, I cannot seem to find any apps for her new phone.

It seems to be a little more difficult than the spv as i think we have to download and install 2-3 different updates etc etc but which one first........hope you fellas know and can point us in the right downloadable direction

any help or assistance would be apprieciated ( spelt wrong I know lol)

I can't be 100% on this as i'm doing it from memory but I think handcent sms gives you the button to read out sms! And i'm pretty new too. If you need to program it to do anything automatically i've been using 'tasker' as its almost infinitely customizable. (not in market just google search for "tasker beta android").

Hope thats a good start! If not, hopefully an expert will be along soon.

I think You need Text To Speech Extended. Search TTS on the market and it should be the first result.

If not... it'll be handy for other stuff, no doubt.

EDIT: Handcent does speak text messages on my phone but I already have TTS installed, not sure if it's needed for that function or not.

IIRC handcent prompts you to download tts if you try to use the speech functions

just have to say that my wife's hero has a build number of 2.73.61.5 and a firmware version of 1.5 and a software version of 1.0.0.A6288 would I have to update or up grade these first or would TTS work as is?

thanks for all your support by the way I am really thankful to all hows has helped me. If I can get the thing to talk by Sunday that would be great too as its her birthday and would make the day complete.
