Swype available as a beta to all now

Hello all,

I was reading on androidandme and it mentioned that swype is now available in a public beta. I have just registered and it sent me the download link. So I now have swype installed.

I have already read that notice. However this is an official beta release. You register for the software on the official website. It does not involve pirating the software or committing any copyright infringement.

I have tried the beta, and have the keyboard set to default so I see it, however when I try to "swype" a word as is shown in their tutorial on their site, the keyboard makes a beep and a blue border shows for a split second. No word is made. Does swype work for the pulse?

Swype works for me very well, better than i had expected to be honest.

its clearly not working for me <_< Im running 1.8b2 vanilla with all the kitchen stuff except wavesecure and the ssh server. I'm not the greatest debugger, can anyone shed some help into what's happening. The app didnt install after i downloaded it on my phone (saying "SwypeInstaller could not be installed on this phone") so i got it off the sdcard and installed it with adb.

EDIT: Update - now fixed after repairing ext filesystem on the sdcard and repairing uid permissions from the receovery partition.

Are you running on a Tmobile pulse? If so, are you using an MCR rom or are you using the default rom? If you are using the MCR rom, which version are you using?

It's working fine for me using a cooked version of the MCR 1.8Beta2 without Wavesecure or SSH. It's very easy to use once you get used to it and recognises words really well.

This is very odd. I know for a fact that it is not me as the keyboard doesn't even work when it's doing the tutorial (to show you how to use the keyboard).

Working for me as well.

I don't actually like using the proper swiping motion of this but I think the actual keyboard is the best i've used yet <_<

so i have it installed checked the "swype" button in locale and text and but every app seems to want to use the tmobile cootek pad still; i cant seem to make it go away. anyone got any hints? which cache do i reset in app manager (if thats possible)

another edit (yes this is my third post and third self fix - feeling like the boy who cried wolf a lot now) i found this and its working perfectly. All good now; was worth all the hassle <_<

Awesome, it has the one thing that was missing from the previous, unofficial beta; auto capitalization. For me, it's now a viable alternative to the hero keyboard.

Exactly the same. Untouched december pulse. On phone boot it gives a message that swype has limited functions as it is not dessigned for my device..

It was the same for me too so I uninstalled both the swype and the installer and got the link resent. All working fine now on a rooted pulse with the stock OS inc the December update.

Im running MDC 1.8b2 and I can comment that under this ROM it does work.

That may be why it's working for me with no problems. I didn't include TouchPal in my cooked ROM as it lags so much even with the MCR.

Just press for around 3 secs on an area where you input text eg sms. It will come up with a dialog screen, choose input method and choose swype.
