Guest biron_w Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Is there an app that allows me to do it straight to the card?I've been getting the memory low message. I've downloaded an app from the store but it only allows me to copy from the phone memory to my card after the app has been downloaded to the phone.

I've downloaded an app from the store but it only allows me to copy from the phone memory to my card after the app has been downloaded to the phone. All modaco roms include apps2sd which allows to install apps to sd card, and this is done automatically under conditions of proper partitioning your sd card which can be done from within recovery interface. All this info in details can be found on this forum, ust use search for apps2sd and recovery image. One advise though - I had a lot of problems with various apps when I converted my ext partition to ext4, In my experience ext3 is better. Try though yourself, maybe you will not get into the same troubles.
Guest biron_w Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Sorted it now.I just did a search and found the solution.
Guest Daz555 Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Sorted it now.I just did a search and found the solution. What did you do in the end? Custom ROM or just an install of apps2sd?
Guest biron_w Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) What did you do in the end? Custom ROM or just an install of apps2sd? I partitioned my memory card.No swap and changed ext2 to ext3. You can do this through the recovery menu(turn off phone and then turn back on whilst holding the red buttong and menu button). But you WILL lose any data you have on such as music, photo's etc. On the plus side i've now got a 512MB of memory for apps <_< I do have the modaco custom rom installed so not sure if you need enable rooting first. So after this did it just work? I did the same (but with a 32MB swap). Beforehand I copied the SD to my PC, and after copied it back. Since rebooting i have errors all over the shop. Have the apps dont work either. Is this simple unavoidable and need a factory reset, or have I done something wrong? Also which is safer to use? EXT2 or EXT3 and why no swap file?

I think this is built into MCR 1.8 but <=1.7 doesn't have the auto checking on boot. This may be documented on the Wiki page
Guest Daz555 Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Also which is safer to use? EXT2 or EXT3 and why no swap file? EXT3. Swap is simply not supported and the presence of a swap partition can prevent mounting.
