No Service on Roaming - Vodacom SIM

I live in South Africa and use a Vodacom prepaid SIM card in my Omnia (QBus 07/08 Custom 6.1 ROM).

Back in the UK on holiday this SIM does not connect to any UK network - it should connect to Vodafone on roaming. My other Omnia (wife's) with Shokka's last 6.1 ROM roams on the UK Vodafone network without problems. Swapping the two SA SIMs around I still got no service on any network on my Omnia. So I thought there was a phone problem or radio hardware issue BUT a UK SIM worked fine.

Going to Settings/phone/network I get this on trying to manually connect :

"Cannot register on selected network. Choose another network or disconnect your data connection and try again"

I will contact Vodacom but anyone know of some setting that locks roaming. Using *#0228# nothing seemed locked just not connected.
