Looking for default Hero splash image...

Does anyone have a copy of the image displayed during initial boot? I'd like to replace mine, but with one based on the original.

I was hoping to dump it from the device, but it seems this isn't possible without a patched kernel (the mtd6 patch) & I've not been able to find such.

Are you talking about the splash image (the one which comes immediately after you power on the device) ?

Yup. I know the subsequent animated sequences can be ripped out of the ROM. The only part I can't get a copy of is the static image splash1 (& I guess splash2, though maybe the Hero doesn't make use of this?). Thanks for taking the time to reply by the way.

Here it is what you want :-

I'm sure you know how to put this up.

Great, thanks very much <_< Lol at it having been downloaded 3 times before I got to it.

May I ask where you got it from?

Do you know if there's a tool to convert .rgb565 to a common format? Thought I'd ask before writing one. I know one can go the other way, easily enough. If not, do you know where/if the rgb565 format is documented?... Hmm, no header, 16 bits per pixel & one assumes allocated 5 to red and blue, 6 to green (as the eye has more sensitivity to green); should be able to guess it in one or two attempts. Ta, that'll give me something to do this evening.

I plan on making a replacement based on the original, hence needing it in an editable format. Also, I don't like flashing until I know I have the ability to undo the change. Thanks again for the image.

That looks like just the job, cheers. Conversions both ways, plus might be able to flash the splash from within the app, plus can grab screenshots from the device. Nice, thanks <_<

Ah well, I'll shelve my code then - I didn't get far. Only thing it had going for it was it looked like it'd end up under 25kB in size. At least I got around to fixing my broken Cygwin install.

Erm, well, I did wonder why the file was called 'black'... Both RGB565Convertor & a simple hex editor confirm this is a file of zeros. The default splash screen displays the word Hero on a black background. Um? It's not as though it's April 1st. Are you sure you're a doctor? <_<

To avoid any further 'confusion' this is almost what the image looks like - this one's had an url superimposed: almosthero.png

[Edit:] Attached is an archive with a copy of the default splash1, in both png & rgb565 formats. Note, I very much doubt this is bitwise identical to the default image, but I think it looks identical, near as damn it. As I'm somewhat mad, I am still after a bitwise perfect copy of the original, if anyone has one.

I just managed to find something similar myself, but thanks <_<

Yeah, I will use it. But I think I'm a little OCD... I would have liked to be able to restore nand to exactly how it was when I got the phone, if I ever wanted. If I change splash1, without a bitwise identical copy of the original splash1.rgb565 that won't be possible. Never mind, I'll just up my medication & the bad feelings will go away :(

Don't worry ^^ i'm some kind of control freak myself , and i see what you mean by "bitwise identical copy" , i do the same with my wii and my hero , i have hundreds of nand saves for both of them (including "out of the box saves" in case of....)
