Yeah! It is really fast! especially when youre on GPRS or EDGE.

but:

-no Multitouch (pinch to zoom)

-you have to reload the page, when rotating

and sadly it's really slow on ajax-heavy sites such as touch.facebook.com

I DON'T have to reload when I rotate a page... it just rotates them for me.....

It does, but on my Hero, it's not fullscreen after rotating it. After a reload it is fullscreen again. I think this is because opera renders the page for your device.

Is there any way to make Opera Mini the default browser? I'd like links in emails and other apps to open in Opera Mini. I thought it would be possible with this version but I cant find a way to make it the default!

Opera Mobile should be released soon, which should be a better Internet Browser for those who use a 3g network

Thanks for the heads up OP.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. The browser is fast, clean and intuitive. I especially like the performance on GPRS <_<

Great working at all, think it will replace the dophlin browser at least on my pulse.

Specialy the tabbed browser is a lot more comfortable...

Opera ftw

My god, it's insanely fast! Can't believe it. Love how it caches the last few pages so that when you press the back button the page loads instantly.

Only thing is that it won't let me log in to modaco.

I have been using Opera Mini on my previous phone for many years and even I'm surprised at the speed over GPRS! There really is no need to high quality images when viewing over your phone, you simply want information FAST! I just wish I could make it my default browser!!! Seems it's not possible as someone called Nico has posted a comment suggesting the same here:

It seems there is not a way to make it default browser and this is a bug of Opera itself (otherwise it should ask you on the first link clicked). At least it is a beta version. <_< But anyway, I am really impressed with the performance, definitely worth a try!

Hi

Can anyone tell me if there is a proper mobile optimised version of this forum in the pipeline? I have seen the rather plain simplified version before but its not much to my liking. It seems funny to have a forum aimed at android phone users that isn't optimised for their phones. unless i'm missing something?

Better still, a 'tapatalk' enabled version of this forum would be useful too. Apparently, it only has to be enabled by the forum administrators to work. I use tapatalk to view a car forum I visit and its great, really fast and clear. Any chance we could have it enabled for this forum please?

Thank you

I think I'll wait for Opera Mobile, that version was designed specifically for Smartphones, Opera mini was designed for all other phones hence is not as feature rich a browser as I have come to expect for our phones. The strong points for this phone may be the performance on 2G networks.

This is not for me, but may be for others. IMHO

I switched to Opera Mini because of the speed and because scrolling up and down pages with lots of images seemed a lot smoother. The only issue I have is that if I switch to other tasks and Opera has to be closed it won't reopen with the last page I visited. This isn't too big a problem because the history feature is great.

Are you using the stock T-Mobile ROM? I found that there wasn't much memory free when I used the stock ROM so I could only open 1 or 2 programs. When I changed to MCR I could open a lot more, maybe 5 or 6 at once.

Yeah stock ROM because unfortunately all the custom ROMs here seem to reset for me =(

Maybe the built in Android app killer is set to an aggressive kill mode? If you know how to use ADB find out the settings of memory killer:

cat /sys/module/lowmemorykiller/parameters/minfree

Should give you something like this:

1536,2048,4096,5120,5632,6144

If these values are set are set higher then Android will kill applications more easily. Check out AutoKiller app for more info:
