Guest chicago29 Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 Hello This is a great forum and I look forward to participating. However before I do I want to get some answers before I get brave enough to hack up my new AT&T N1. I'm looking at rooting my N1 in preparation for the RC of the Desire ROM that seems to be nearing. 1) Will unlocking the bootloader delete all the data on my phone? The dialogue seems to indicate that it will, but I'd like to confirm this. 2) If yes, how can I back the phone up so that I can get all my applications back WITH PROPER MARKET DATA? In other words, I want to restore my apps and have them appear in the "Downloads" section so I continue to be informed of updates. I use MyBackup now, and it does a good job with the phone settings, but Applications only restore and I have to end up re-downloading from the Market so that I'm informed of updates. I just spent hours getting my phone set up (mostly restoring apps) and I'd like to make this very painless if I indeed have to do it. 3) Once I have the bootloader unlocked, I assume I need to install Superboot. After Superboot, I'm free to install custom ROM's, correct? 4) I assume that there is a way to get the original N1 ROM back onto the phone if I go with the Desire ROM and discover an issue or just don't like it? I think I saw a link for it on here somewhere... Thanks for everybody's help! And I apologize in advance for the noob questions :-) -chicago29

Astro is an app in the market that can backup all apps to the appstore. I do not know if you could say download apps on the nexus ROM and then have them be downloaded to the desire ROM. but using astro and performing a nandroid backup before switching roms should save everything. Dalvik wiping erases sms though. 3) You need to install Amon-ra - something. Ill find the link and update this post. Its not complicated. 4) yes there is. its called creating a nandroid backup. It saves the current ROM, ALWAYS do this before you switch ROMs. You can do this via the amon-ra thing. actually.. just search the forums. Its a sticky in the nexus one forum.
