Was just wondering...Differences Between Legend & Hero 2.1 ROM

Hey guys... quick question that's been bugging been....

Obviously we are waiting for a Modaco ROM based on 2.1 for the Hero... (waiting for official Hero 2.1 ROM)

But as the Legend is coming out soon... would there be any differences in the Legend 2.1 ROM and the Hero 2.1 (such as optimisations for each device due to hardware difference?)

As the screen size is the same not much would be different...am I correct in saying this?

Would there therefore be any difference if Paul started working on a proper (not leaked) Legend ROM (when it becomes widely available) for Hero owners?

Also if there are not any optimisations then the Hero ROM should be available right now officially.. but if we are waiting it means there may be specific optimisations for the 2 devices right? But then again the Legend is out on the 1st April and I think rumour has it 2.1 for the Hero comes out 2nd Aprill... hmmm

(this is not a thread to beg paul to create a 2.1 ROM... I am merely just wondering) ..

thank you :)

I read somewhere about a week back probably on Twitter where Paul had tried a ROM based on the Legend with issues, so no change, waiting patiently for an official ROM with hopefully a genuine leak to Paul maybe a week or two earlier.

Hi I was talking about an official ROM and how the 2.1 ROM for the Hero and Legend may differ...

and if there are not any differences Paul could just make a Legend based 2.1 ROM for us (when the real, proper, official Legend ROM is released)... as it will be available before the Hero 2.1

Firstly the official ROM for Hero would be available to us before any official ROM release for Legend, Secondly there would be no difference between the ROM for Legend and the ROM for Hero because as far as I know there are only hardware changes between both the phones, rest are all software changes which would be available to us.

Hi thanks for the reply..

If the Legend is out now could people not make a copy of there Legend ROM ? Is there a way to extract the ROM out of someone's new phone?

Or would we have to wait for it to be released on the official website? (Legend ROM)... as I was under the impression that if someone say got the Legend they could give us the ROM by making an image of there phone?

thanks.

It can be extracted through a Nandroid Backup, But you need to have the Custom Recovery Image for that.

Most Probably the answer is Yes! As I said most of the changes in legend are software changes which would be available in the Hero ROM and I have also heard this in a video review of legend.

There are already several custom roms, based on legend rom, for the Hero - eg. Villain, beHero...

There are but they won't be as stable as the MCR 4.0 when it comes, and the main problem with them are the battery life on those ROM's because of the 'kernal' So eagerly waiting for Paul to get his hands on an Official Hero 2.1 ROM.

afaik kernel battery life issues happened with eris droid rom, not legend. legend hardware is mostly the same as in hero, so most of the kernel works great out of the box; nevertheless, there are slightly small differences both HW and SW that makes it buggy sometimes. if you add to this cookers add a2sd and root and stuff on top of it, then you got a combo ready to crash eventually.

best legend port to hero is villainrom atm. paul will NOT do a port from another rom to hero since it will introduce bugs and he doesnt want to do that. he will update mcr for hero when an official 2.1 rom for hero comes up.

tbh, ive tried other roms different than paul's mcr, and they are all quite buggy and slow, compared to mcr3.1+

So if I have a Legend in my hand right now is it possible for me to extract a ROM image and give that to a developer and allow them to make a Hero 2.1 ROM. Would that be as good as an official?

How would I go about getting the Kernal from the Legend?

A few people out there have a Legend so can't we get the Kernal & ROM from there phones and use that to create an Official(ish) ROM ?

Look here http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...tc-desire-dump/ ... he is also wondering what to do and if its possible..

Also what is the difference between villainrom and BeHero (which I am using)

thanks.

It can be extracted through a Nandroid Backup, But you need to have the Custom Recovery Image for that, and till now there are no such guides on 'How To Root HTC Legend' and secondly again there are kernal issues because even if we extract the ROM image we still need a Hero kernal, then only the battery life and stability of the ROM will be good.

And there is no big difference between Villain ROM and BeHero, some of the differences which I personally found out where :-

1) BeHero is a bit more stable than Villain ROM.

2) BeHero has very less add-ons to it compared to Villain ROM (Personally I like a neat and clean ROM with only the

necessary add-ons)

3) And some other changes which I know are regarding the theme and appearance of OS.

Supposedly the Legend (& Desire) are locked down fairly tightly and nigh impossible to root. That means no custom recovery image and hence no nandroid backup. The hardware between the Hero & Legend is similar, but not identical, so unless we have the correct kernel, it's never going to be 100%, and that means waiting for a proper HTC sourced Hero 2.1 ROM.

Villain is about the best you can hope for at the moment for a 2.1 port for the Hero as everything is tailored for the near-identical hardware of the Legend, but it's still far from 100% due to workarounds needed by the still v1.5 hardware support.

Maybe HTC will eventually release a proper 2.1 for the Hero, but it's not looking like it'll be in the next month.

If you tried booting the Legend kernel on the Hero, it'd just crash due to mismatched hardware.
