Guest Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 I've wondered this, is the phone exactly the same hardware with a different ROM or do they make a different phone for the US/Asia market than the rest of the world? I'm wondering if you changed the ROM from GSM to CDMA and the SIM card, would the phone work on the other network? It would make life much easier for mobile phone companies if that were the case.
Guest uk786 Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 As far as I know the Qualcommn processor's are different
Guest stevenz Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 CDMA mostly phones don't use SIM cards either, not sure if the sprint hero is one of the rare ones that does? The radio hardware on a CDMA phone isn't capable of GSM/WCDMA/HSPA communication, it'll only do CDMA so even if you managed to shoe-horn GSM/WCDMA radio firmware and a ROM onto one, you'd just end up with a brick.
Guest Soaa- Posted March 25, 2010 Report Posted March 25, 2010 They're different enough to require different ROMs. You can't flash a GSM ROM on a CDMA device, or vice versa.

The Sprint Hero doesn't use a SIM card, so I'm pretty confused by his original post.

Outside of the US, CDMA uses a type of SIM card called R-UIM Does the Sprint Hero have a space for the SIM card under the battery or is it just not there? I live in the UK, so I have never seen the Sprint Hero.
