Seeing that the GPRS offer is soon to run its course. I’ve like to use WAP to access my emails and internet. But I can seem to be able to connect?

Has anyone got this working?

Thx

Haven't tried yet, but can't see the point just at the moment as there are still 2 months of the "unlimted" offer left.

Just be my luck that I leave until it's too late though and end up not being able to access anything, or pay a fortune to do it ;)

I'm not using GPRS at the moment, as i simply cant afford it.

in internet explorer options/conections make sure "automatically detect setings" is ticked and the network is set to "the internet"

Then go to the system settings/data connections and change internet settings to "pass through connector" (this will mean that you can access the actual internet while connected to your computer)

Then change the wap connection option to "Orange CSD WAP"

To then access the orange WAP network go to internet explorer and make a favourite that connects to "wsp://wap.orange-today.co.uk/

This should see you sorted ;)

Mine uses GPRS for connection for WAP.... Strange. Oh and then it gives me 'A page cannot be found' error message.

Orange have a new promo for GPRS WAP access (and CSD access too, but you have to pick which you're going to use!) The deal is either a "reasonable use" of 10 megabytes (that's 42 copies of "Hamlet" - Shakespeare's longest play in ASCII format) OR 200 minutes of calls to the WAP number each month. Price is £4 per month... and the GOOD news is there's no minimum term for the contract. The even BETTER news is... it's FREE for 3 months. That is, when it's added to your a/c, "WAP ACCESS PACK" gets added, AND a second "Discount Plan" package which refunds the £4 for the first 3 months. I don't recall if it's allowed to co-exist with the SPV Promo, but I seem to recall that it IS. If so, you don't get much cheaper than free... And there is NO rule preventing you from cancelling before the 3 months is up - although £4 for 10meg is £2 cheaper than the SPV promo. If nothing else, it's a way to reduce your GPRS bill by switching to WAP where and when you can. 10 meg of WAP acces a month IS effectively "unlimited".

Thats good to hear - I'm sure people will be tempted by that offer, although since I've had full internet pages on my phone, I'm not sure I could go back to WAP.

Still, if you can have it free for 3 months, and then cancel if you don't like it its got to be worth a try. Maybe I'll give it a whirl once the SPV pack is up.

And yes, like you say 10Mb of WAP IS unlimited in all practical terms. I see no way that you could possibly exceed that given the tiny size of WAP content.

Actually... If I go to data connections and change my Internet connection to Orange WAP does that mean that I can still get proper internet using the WAP deal?? If so that would make me one VERY happy bunny.

Or am I just missing something obvious.

I believe that you would only be able to

access WAP sites as you would be logging

on to a dedicated WAP server when you change your

settings.

when i called orange about using just normal WAP on the phone they tried to sell me the £4 a month deal. but as i'm on everyday 50, i didnt feel the need for it as normal WAP time is taken from my free contract minutes.

That's correct. The £4 bundle will ONLY get you WAP access. But, by using WAP for some things where it's applicable or an acceptable alternative, to help keep down general GPRS usage, it could make a sizable dent in your bill. My speculation is that this MIGHT be an attempt to kill-off SMS. If you can send unlimited WAP based emails (with no 160 character limit!) for £4 a month, OR 40 160-charatcer SMS texts for the same money...
