Newbie question about Hero

I got a HTC Hero

Firmware Version 1.5

I would like to use this phone in Canada on Bell Mobility GSM network.

When I went to Bell Mobility to setup the phone and install a Sim card. I was told that the phone is no compatible with the network. I think this phone is from europe.

Is there away to get it to work in Canada ? Can I flash something to get it to work ?

Did you try poping the SIM in the device, and is the device branded to any telecom company or does it belong to HTC.

yes i did and the Sim card didn't work. The phone didn't like it. I check and I was told that phone is not compatible with the network.

2.73.707.9 is the build that comes with sim unlocked htc branded asian heroes i think. i remember mine having that before. there should be no sim lock or such on it. it should be compatible with any standard gsm network. what kind of error/problem did you get when trying the sim card?
