Questions about the Market

Okay first of all, I can't seem to download things from the Market a lot of the time. I go into my download list and it says "Starting download..." but it never starts, and it stays there for too long, so I end up cancelling it. What can I do to fix this?

Also another minor question.. I'm not sure whether it's allowed to be discussed here or not, but can I download paid apps for free?

edit: One other thing.. is it possible to set the phone to vibrate when you get a text message? As at the moment, it only seems to vibrate when I get call.

Yep you can, but Modaco won't support it.

Actually I get this a lot. I blame it on the quality of my connection (as it only seems to happen if I get a internet spike / drop). Cancelling the download and restarting it is annoying (especially the way you have to do it 5 or more times)

But it has never really bothered me.. After all you only ever download apps once (Unless you wipe / uninstall)

As far as I am aware there is no fix for this

I have the same problem when connected to some WIFI networks, but never on 3G/EDGE. Just turn OFF/ON WIFI and it will start downloading.

Oh cool, thanks for the replies guys. It seems as though it's a common problem so I'll just stick with it.

What about my final question that I edited the first post for?

Open the messaging app, press menu, settings, then scroll to the bottom of the list and tick the vibrate check box.

Oh.. I feel like such a tool for not looking there before. Thank you!

You can go to settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> go to Download Manager and Market --and click on "Clear Cache".

It worked for me most of the times.

If the above solution does not work then you have to boot in Recovery mode using Quick Boot. Scroll down to other --> Select "Fix apk uid mismatches" --> Click green button on ur phone.

The process will start, after completion reboot normally.

Cheers

when you're not able to download from the market you should check if you're signed in to google talk on your phone. i guess the reason for that is that market uses gtalk to authenticate your google account. sometimes i have the same issue with downloading from the market, then i have to start google talk, sign in, and tadaaaam... download starts instantly.
