I have already asked this question in one of the topics related to the custom rom I have installed but I have only received one answer. Apparently not everybody follows all topics and this question does not require to be an expert, all you need is your phone and another phone with which you can dial your own number.

How quick do your phones react to an incoming phonecall?

Mine, with its screen off (sleep / stand by mode) and with no applications running only rings with the THIRD signal! So my phone is still sleeping although it should have been ringing for some 8 seconds.

I think it is a big problem, although I do not think it is rom related.

I miss a lot of calls, some of them are disconnected even before the phone recognizes the incoming number.

Please check your phones. I think the problem is somehow hardware related.

The one person who has already replied confirmed the problem.

I can confirm it, but it looks like there is no solution. For now

But it is ridiculous! Neither Omnia Lite nor Omnia II have this problem. Omnia Pro is the most expensive device ot the three and has such a drawback.

Does anyone have a B7610 that reacts instantly? Please check and post.

Hi all,

For me, it works fine! It rings right at the 1st signal.

I guess it can be a problem with your Telco (may be the compatible of this device with some specific Telcos), just a guess :-)

Regards,

I don't think it's operator-related, I have used my Omnia qwerty with two different operators and I am also experiencing the same lag between 1st signal and 1st ring, although lag times are different for each call. I am using the stock WM6.5 rom. Could it perhaps be WM6.5 related? Any thoughts?

No. Mine, out of the box, ran on WM 6.1 and it was just the same.

I too have this problem - but only sometimes. (not operator-dependant for me, I checked)

might this depend on whether the caller is in your outlook contacts, your sim contacts or completely unknown? (e.g. outlook taking long to start up, while sim contacts are readily available?)

Its solved there is no delay irrespective of the ROM ( 6.1,6.5,6.5.3,6.5.5).

its just 2 steps.

1) All you have to do us just use samsung dialer and caller ID. if you are using meglite Check Daskalos 6.5.5 thread and download samsung dialer.

2) Install SKtool ( trial / paid) go to Tune up and change ring script to " apr" from "ap3wr".

apr3wr in this 3W is actually a 3 second delay in the script.

Soft Reset

Try and confirm the same...!!!!!

Cheers

Yes, it helped a ton! It is still not instant but the reaction time is down from 8 seconds to some 3 seconds.

The script I have had was yet another but cannot remember it exactly. It was even longer ap3wr.

Maybe there is a script which will take the time down to 0 seconds?

@FloydPink, thanks for your hint, I found it.

Now just what to do with this scrollbared dialer? :P

Run Sktools -> Tune Up! -> Phone edition, then scroll down a you will see "Ring script" and just edit.

Hybrid ROM does not have the ring delay

Its true, for me it also worked without any delay on the Hybrid ROM and now on the new build jc2. NO delay anymore!

for me everything is fine now.

"The only thing related to "ring" in "Tune up" is "Ringtone files". I cannot find this ring script thing sad.gif Please help."

I found the 'Ring script' in Tune Up in the 'Phone Edition Tab' last entry after Show SIM items. <---- a bit too late!

I cannot confirm if it works though, for I don't need to anymore! :P

Hello friends .. If the problem is solved by using the 2 steps in my previous post then please edit the topic to "solved" so that everyone can take the benefit ...

Cheers to all the contributors.

Cheers to Daskalos for making the samsung dialer cab separately.... and definitely to his megaLITE ROMS

Modaco Rocks !!!!

Well, in my case it is not 100 per cent solved, it is just better. And not always. I have just timed it: first time the phone lit up after 3 seconds and started ringing after 4.5 seconds. The second time the first sound came 7 seconds after I heard the first signal in the receiver.

change ring script to " apr" from "ap3wr".
Should there be a space before the "a" like you typed or was it just mistyped?

PS With this samsung dialer how do you use call history and contacts? Neither works.

I think the solution specified by AbbeySumit is not correct, at least for me. And anybody who thinks the problem is resolved after changing the script, just try to put the device to sleep and try again. It will again give you the longer delay. Its a driver/Radio(phone part of ROM) related issue as far as I understand.

As for the ring script, here is a quick tutorial about it :

'a' signifies the start of script,

'v' specifies vibrate,

'p' specifies play ringtone,

'w' specifies wait/pause,

'c' specifies volume.

'r' specifies repetition.

Any numbers after a character represents its strength/length/times etc.

So a simple Ring only script will be apw3r which means: start>play ringtone>wait for 3 secs after full ringtone playback>repeat the sequence. Similarly, If you set your phone to vibrate with ring then the sequence becomes av0pw3r which means: start>vibrate without delay>play ringtone>wait for 3 secs after full playback>repeat the sequence.

Essentially what the 'w' here doing is pausing the ring playback for 3 secs before it repeats. It has nothing to do with the startup delay of ring as we can see at startup, no delay is specified in the script.

I have observed that when u lock the phone by Lock button and it goes into sleep, then it takes more time to respond to a call in comparison to when phone is ON. I guess the real culprit is the Radio of the device which delays in telling the hardware/OS about the call when its asleep.

The only thing that made a difference in the ring playback is setting the Performance settings to HIGH under Samsung's skinned settings> General Settings>Power>Performance. This made the delay go down from 7 seconds to 3 seconds on my phone. What I feel is, when this setting is at automatic, the CPU switches to a low speed mode as soon as the device sleeps. Changing this to HIGH makes the CPU to always remain in full speed mode and thus the phone responds faster. Please note that this may affect battery life.

Try it, it may help. And, No offense meant to anyone, including AbbeySumit :P

My B7610 is working instant when ON and yes little delay when its in sleep mode that is also less /equal then 3 sec everytime. The ring script will work along with Samsung Dialer .... Enabling Samsung dialer will definitely help the phone to respond faster then the windows default dialer. tried and tested. I also have flashed the Phone.bit from offical samsung update in this forum.

And last but not the least ,Bhardwaj thanks for all the info. Appreciated your time to respond on the this.

Sadly it is a tough choice. I very much prefer the windows dialer. Although it looks like crap, it is functional with its call history and contacts working quick and smooth.

On the other hand, the samsung dialer gives you better reaction time which seems the most important of all the features in question. It also gives you phonecall recording option which comes in handy. But for full functionality you also need to install samsung phonebook and call history which suck - use lots of ram and are major reasons for people to change to megalite roms.

Tough call.

What i wrote in my previous post was written with Samsung Dialer enabled in mind. I like the Samsung Dialer and never disable it, not to mention that Video Calls are not possible without it :P
