Guest GesaugeN Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 (edited) after reading all of the sticky topics and a lot of posts on this forum, I can't say that I've realy leadned anything about flashing i900's roms... all of the explanations are mixed up or advanced in procedure so that I can't even do the basics of flashing... So PLEASE explain me these basics terms on my example: PDA: i900XXIB3/MRIB1 PHONE: i900XXHI5 1. So, what is "rom" version here: XXIB3, MRIB1 or XXHI5? Also, please explain XXIB3 -> it is a version of...? (version of mobile's radio? mobile's WM version? WHAT IS IT???) MRIB1 -> it is a version of...? (version of mobile's radio? mobile's WM version? WHAT IS IT???) XXHI5 -> it is a version of...? (version of mobile's radio? mobile's WM version? WHAT IS IT???) 2. On which of these above codes (XXIB3, MRIB1, XXHI5) is this numeration refered to? i900 - > model designation (SGH-i900). XX - > region / network carrier designation (XX = Spain - open Market). G - > release year (E = 2007). K - > release month (K = November). 1 - > version number. 3. COM2, COM3, COM5 & WMD ->meaning, difference and how do I know which one should I use? 4. Cooked rom builds: 24001 | 23102 | 23519| 21891| 25001 |28223 | 23529 | 21892 | 28227 | 23530 | 23534 | 28230 | 23540 | 21893 | 23542 | 25007|23544|23110|23639|23548 ->meaning, difference and how do I know which one should I use with my phone? 5. General questions: - I have WM 6.1. Do I need to update to original WM 6.5 before updating to cooked WM 6.5 roms? And If yes, how? - What does the "base" rom in cooked roms means? Which is the best/latest base rom? 6. Optional (but VERY helpful): Explain to me in detailed steps exact procedure to update my phone to, lets say PDhee i900Omnia WM 6.5.x Lite ROM I believe that if all 6 of them are explained, that subject will be flashing begginers holy grail! Also, If you are going to post links to the existing topic with explanation, I'm begging you not to! Better than link is copy/paste of part of text that is refered to the question, so please post here only tekst or copy/pasted tekst from other topics! Thank you very much in advance for help! Better than link is copy/paste of part of text that is refered to the question, so please post here only tekst or copy/pasted tekst from other topics! Thank you very much in advance for help! Normally asking questions like this will have people pointing the finger at you calling you 'noob', 'ignorant', bla bla bla. However. you have raised some good points in the post that havnt been answered clearly in one collection. So, I'll have a go at explaining it for you :P 1. WHAT IS IT???) The different versions of the ROM's are originals from Samsung that people can then cook with. I for instance use DXID1 as I have found that it has the best battery lifetime. Some variations are for different countries. For example XLHB1 is used for Nordic Roms and will support nordic languages. As a general rule of thumb, when samsung release their updates, they upgrade both the PDA part of the phone, and the mobile radio. So alot of the time you will see them match. All in all, the numbers that are given are basically a reference by samsung. Your phone will be able to accept all of them (apart from i910 specific), it will just alter things slightly to both the software and radio part (DXID1 had the online widgets added whereas some earlier versions did not / different phone part may get better or worse signal). Chefs tend not to cook in the phone parts as if you brick it during flashing there is no chance of return, whereas if you brick during PDA flash, sometimes you can revive it. The rom versions are just the base that the cook has chosen to make their ROM on. There are no references to what version of windows mobile it is as the operating system is kept seperate to the main drivers etc. 2. On which of these above codes (XXIB3, MRIB1, XXHI5) is this numeration refered to? I am not quite sure what you mean by this, but the numbers again are revisions of radio/PDA parts. You will need to search for which revision is the latest release. 3. COM2, COM3, COM5 & WMD ->meaning, difference and how do I know which one should I use? Windows mobile is not just developed in one place. The development is spread over various 'branches' which are named COM2/3/4/5. Each branch produces a different build. Some branches produce more stable builds, and some experiment with different things like the introduction of threaded email. There is no right or wrong one to use. Some will just be a little different. (More stable, less stable, new features etc etc) If you want to know more about the COM branches SB found a more in depth post from XDA here: http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-h...ches-explained/ 4) Cooked rom builds: 24001 | 23102 | 23519| 21891| 25001 |28223 | 23529 | 21892 | 28227 | 23530 | 23534 | 28230 | 23540 | 21893 | 23542 | 25007|23544|23110|23639|23548 ->meaning, difference and how do I know which one should I use with my phone? The numbers refer to the branch and what build number it was for that branch. E.g. 28227 = WMD build, build version 227 Differences are again that some will be more stable/newer/have more features. Some can even use the different GUI's. Windows mobile 6.5 is still developing and you will see some new revisions of the classic style (with the start menu at the top) These tend to come from COM1/COM2/Early COM3. You will have to read up on the revision number. Normally chefs will post screenshots of the build though so it is easy to see what kind of GUI it uses. You can find more about the com versions in SB's post. 5. General questions: - I have WM 6.1. Do I need to update to original WM 6.5 before updating to cooked WM 6.5 roms? And If yes, how? No, you do not need to update to an official 6.5 because there isnt one! B) You can jump straight onto cooked ROMs. To update the ROM you need to follow the steps provided here: http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general...00-omnia-phone/ Also, you will probably find my video very useful. I recorded the first time that I flashed my phone, showing in detail what needs to be done: Part 1: Part 2: The device manager trick will tell you if the drivers have installed okay (you wont find that tip many places, i figured it out myself when doing it, but im sure someone else will have known too ;) ) :( - What does the "base" rom in cooked roms means? Which is the best/latest base rom? The base again is the original samsung ROM that has been modified to make the custom ROM. DXID1 seems to be the best I have used. 6. Optional (but VERY helpful): Explain to me in detailed steps exact procedure to update my phone to, lets say PDhee i900Omnia WM 6.5.x Lite ROM See question 5. The video goes through in detail about the steps needed to have a successful flashing. Make sure you have no other USB devices in and all anti-virus/firewalls turned off. (I also turn off my wireless and use XP in classic mode for best performance) Hopefully after reading this you'll be a bit more in the know :( Do be careful when flashing for the first time, any foolish mistakes like leaving another usb device plugged in could result in owning a brick :o If you are really struggling with anything PM me, but I may be slow to respond as I rarely use the forum nowadays. And now for some self promo :( I have just made a new version of black beauty, which in my opinion is my best yet! See my thread: http://www.modaco.com/content/i900-general...ler-rom-thread/ Should be up in about 20 mins! GO GO GO! :P Jay
Guest GesaugeN Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 (edited) U have my eternal gratitude! :P everything is so much more clearer and understandable! Normally asking questions like this will have people pointing the finger at you calling you 'noob', 'ignorant', bla bla bla. I dont care what that kind of people think because everyone who tends to call others by that rude therms only show their own lack of knowledge so they try to make them self more worthy by insulting others. U really need to have very low self esteem to be annoyed by those kind of insults... Anyway, I need only few more answers to call my search for knowledge on the subject - complete: As a general rule of thumb, when samsung release their updates, they upgrade both the PDA part of the phone, and the mobile radio. So alot of the time you will see them match. So, lets say I decide to flash my mob with your's "True Blue 28217" rom, whish has DXIX1 base Will it then on my phone be: PDA: i900DXIX1/DXIX1 PHONE: i900XXHI5 (this one is left unchanged by your rom?) ? Also, is there any real benefit of flashing PHONE part of firmware, and which benefit is it? On which of these above codes (XXIB3, MRIB1, XXHI5) is this numeration refered to? I am not quite sure what you mean by this, but the numbers again are revisions of radio/PDA parts. You will need to search for which revision is the latest release. What I meant was are all of those codes "decodable" by ROM naming scheme (shown HERE) Example; does codes mean this: XXIB3 -> XX (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom); I = 2009; B = February; 3 - > version number. MRIB1 -> MR = ???; I = 2009; B = February; 1 - > version number. XXHI5 -> XX (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom); H = 2008; I = September; 5 - > version number. Guest cruddasj Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 So, lets say I decide to flash my mob with your's "True Blue 28217" rom, whish has DXIX1 base Will it then on my phone be: PDA: i900DXIX1/DXIX1 PHONE: i900XXHI5 (this one is left unchanged by your rom?) ? Also, is there any real benefit of flashing PHONE part of firmware, and which benefit is it?: The version ending depends on the chef. I for instance sign my ROM so that it doesnt get redistributed (although it is an easy thing to change). So my version number looks like this: PDA: i900DXID1/JCI900 Phone: i900XXHI5 The phone part wont change if the ROM only contains a PDA part (pretty much all custom roms) Some other chefs though like Steffi keeps the version original, so it would read PDA: DXID1/DXID1 The first part of the PDA part is the base and the second is the signature. Flashing the phone part can make your signal better or worse, but to be honest, ive been on XXIH5 since week one that I got the phone and have had HSDPA connectivity all along. So I dont think you'd see a massive difference if you changed it.
Guest cruddasj Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 cruddasj, thanks a million! :( No problem :P
