Guest iflyfisher Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I am traveling out of the country and would like to use the GPS on my Verizon Omnia while having the phone turned off. I have found when the phone is off, the GPS won't work. I have read the postings regarding XTRA, but my 910 doesn't seem to have the same System Setting discussed in those threads. How do I set my 910 up so I can use the GSP without the phone? Thanks, Ken

If you have it off, all wireless connections will be off.
Guest aibrean Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I would get the global phone plan if you can. It's worth it if you are going to want to use data. Even if you have something like GPS toggle...I can check when I get home if it would work with Wifi but it's doubtful.
Guest Abqcub Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 i910 doesn't have a sim card and I don't know the availability of CDMA networks in other countries. I think a program like no-data might help. You also gotta have a program that stores the maps on the phone as opposed to Google maps which fetches it all from the internet with each connection.
Guest tractor101 Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 For the longest my i910 wasn't activated (no carrier) and the GPS (igo8, garmin) worked. It did not depend on a data connection. Not the same for Google maps though, it needs wi-fi or a data connection for some reason. P.S. you ought to read your post again, very confusing what you are trying to say/ask..
