Guest stevenbriggs Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 May I ask - why is this such a huge deal to you? I'm not being sarcastic - I mean it. We already know that HTC has been replacing phones, regardless of their lock state. Is there another reason that this is important? Personally, I would like to see it modified so that the picture of the lock is gone, but otherwise...don't really care. Either way, thanks for your insights. :P
Guest multinetwork Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Well, HTC is not 100% consistent with replacing everyone's devices so therefore I needed to spice things up a little. There is only so much you can w/o a reward of some sort. I also want this done so people are able to return their devices with the (OEM). I just read the 57 pages over at XDA forums and the success rate is pretty shady and terrible. --Even if the picture is gone the Bootloader screen will still show "*** Unlocked ***"... Guest pvillasuso Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 @multinetwork Here is an idea : Sell your Nexus @ebay for $350 + use your actual $200 (money prize) = Buy a new one !!!
Guest muncheese Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Dude is just spamming for his forum. There's a total of 8 users on that forum....

Guest multinetwork Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 @muncheese Seriously? I don't care if I have 8 members on my forums. Did I ask anyone to register? Keep your immature comments to yourself. What is with you guys on not wanting a solution for the problem we have. If you cant contribute anything positive don't fu*ing post. It's that simple.
Guest tasty Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 What is with you guys on not wanting a solution for the problem we have. Because for the vast majority of people, it's not a problem. HTC may not replace 100% of unlocked phones, but a couple things come to mind: 1) I doubt they are replacing 100% of locked phones either. 2) You voided the warranty. Unless you bought the phone used off of ebay and someone before you did this, you saw the warning screen and made the choice. "With power comes responsibility." So I'm with stevenbriggs and a few others over on xda in that I (honestly) don't see a functional reason someone actually has for re-locking it. The phone operates, HTC will work on issues that are hardware related as long as you didn't trash the handset, and you voided the warranty. To me, trying to send it back in the first 14 days (so, in short; fraud), you flashed a bad radio and bricked it, or the fear that ebay sales will be less are the only three reasons that I can see. If you've got a better reason, I'd like to hear it, but I don't see a need to relock the bootloader except in the case of nefarious reasons.
Guest multinetwork Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 If something can be unlocked it can be re-locked. I want to see if this is possible. As far as my Nexus One is concerned I don't really give a s*** if I voided the warranty. I know the fact once I rooted the phone it will be useless hence reading the terms. For all I care I can I just give my Nexus One to a bum. I just want someone with the experience and knowledge of figuring out if it's possible. If it is it will pave the way for future phones and let's say the next version of the Nexus One is not as easy to root as this one? Then what? You'll still need a solution. Just work with a solution now and maybe it will help us in the future. There were only a few exceptions made for some of the phones that were sent in for repair. Only 40% of people may be lucky enough to get their phones replaced. The rest 60% of which will have dust, mic not functioning properly, or dead pixels on the LED screen will have to suffer until a solution is found. There are great people with extensive knowledge in the cracking/hacking/modding - I just want someone to provide me with an answer. In return I'm offering $200USD plus $228 from the XDA members. As you can see it will help a lot of people and there are lots of people who are interested in the same idea.
Guest deanesn Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 I see a valid reason here i do not know why every1 else is ranting about this not being a good idea. First: yes it would be nice to lock and not worry about taking the chance with HTC because you just dont know. Maybe one guy got lucky does not mean you will. Second: it would be interesting to see if the great minds get it figure out. You know, theres evolution because people tried the impossible and did not give up. multinetwork has a valid point here. If some1 figures it out then the whole community would have the solution. Selling your phone on ebay is not a community solution. Let's not be selfish and try to help and if you cant then don't flame. We are community here not a kindergarten. :P
Guest rhotov Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 If there's a way, it must have been posted somewhere in this forum. Vice versa.
Guest AndyCr15 Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 I understand 'if you have nothing positive to say, shut up' but I have to say personally I don't like this. I don't see how this will help with unlocking future Google phones and I don't like a precedence that is being set in that devs (or hackers) are being offered money for things they usually do for free as they enjoy the challenge. What if next time Paul says he wont release the unlock for the next phone until he's received £1000? (I'm sure he wouldn't, but maybe you get my point?) What if you're harming the community, not helping it?
Guest multinetwork Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 I know Paul is a great mind and if he really wanted £1000 for his work people all over the world would give in. Example you guys have what over ~300,000 users. Even £5 per person would be enough. This is just a reward for the person that can come out on top. Maybe it will be another free phone I don't know. Whoever wins the amount is basically receiving an early Christmas bonus. Maybe they'll just buy a different phone to play around with. As far as next hacker to charge for services don't we kinda do that here already? (Ads Free Package). I don't mind sparing $10 for a service that will help me and anyone else.

Ok here is why this is a bad idea and people and forums are refusing to do this .... as much as i agree wow why would we not want to be able to do this , here is that one reason why and it is a biggie.... What was single handed the best thing about the nexus? The ease of the unlock hell google and htc wanted us to do it , but it came with a warning of a voided warenty , we all read this and continued anyhow... now htc is still on a case by case basis replacing even the "voided" phones, no lets sy we do come up with a way to re-lock this nexus one "If it is it will pave the way for future phones " what it will pave will be them not allowing there phones to be unlocked anymore because we f-cked them, we took away there ability to look at everything for what it was and we were deceitful, and i learned as a young child that the punishment for that is always way worse than the problem to begin with...I personally would not blame them i mean think about it sure they put in there disclaimer just like every dev here puts one in with there rom but why would they allow it at all? they gave us the freedom and warned the non educated of the risks involved and with that an unlocked phone that comes back to them because of a malfunction they can see and test it to see if it was there hardware or software that failed or you!! and that is what is truly beneficial to everyone and the future of furthering technology not trying to scam a new phone after you broke yours or want to sell it !! I took the risk jsut like everyone here i say let sleeping dogs lie and dont bite the hand that feeds you

Guest three_pineapples Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 If i remember correctly, the 57 page thread on XDA about this was locked because NO ONE HAD ANY IDEA HOW TO DO IT AND ALL IDEAS HAD BEEN TRIED AND EXHAUSTED. The Moderator who locked the thread said it would be reopened if anyone had an idea on how to do it. NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO DO IT. The only way is if someone get's their hands on the nexus one engineering SPL (i think). Or something like that anyway. The point is it isn't going to get done because someone offers money. Leaking the SPL will put someones job on the line, $528USD isn't going to help them. I also agree that we don't want HTC/Google to lock down the next phone because people are costing them money via the warranty of phones they unlocked, damaged and bricked. Just look at the HTC desire. You still can't flash custom roms on it. Some phones have taken more than 6 months to get root access. We don't want that.
