Few Questions! HTC Hero

Hi all. New here and was looking for a wee bit a help. I just recently got a new Hero, which I purchased in Vietnam, not knowing that the Android Market was missing from this version and I cant get it either. Great. So naturally I looked for an answer and started reading bout the custom ROM's. Gonna go for the latest MoDaCo but just need some answers first.

I've been in touch with the SE Asia HTC support and they told me the upgrade for my version shold be available by the end of the month as an over-the-air upgrade. If I root my phone an install a new ROM now will this mess with my phone? Am I just better to wait and do the whole procedure after the upgrade with a new version of the ROM?

Also, if anyone has actually rooted and modded this version of the phone, any advice, tips or prayers would be greatly appreciated!!

It's better that you root your phone now because once the new 2.1 upgrade is installed on your phone, It will be very difficult to root your device, So it's better to do it now. Go here because this is the only way for you to root your phone :-

Just been doin my homework on that site you mentioned and gonna go for it now,, or mayb tomorrow,, late here,, anyhow, just one other question,,

as this is supposed to be an over-the air upgrade, will this mess with the custom ROM? Will I upgrade over the air or will there be any need if I change to a newly modded ROM? Is it fairly easy to upgrade from one custom ROM to a newer one??

Very new at this but hope I can get through it

No this won't mess with the ROM, but whenever you receive any dialog box regarding the update just refuse it, because anyways we'll be getting a .zip of the Stock ROM as well as the Custom ROM for the 2.1, and yes it is very easy to upgrade from Custom ROM to newer ones.

Thanks a bunch man,, just rooted, and finished my nandroid backup--waitin on the MoDaCo download to apply,,, hopin all will go well an ill finally get market place!!
