How to flash room from SD card only ? phone is locked

Hi

I am just start to work with android - and buy a HERO

However - the HERO is locked for Orange UK - and i don't have any sim for.

Also i can't do anything with the phone - when turning on - the unlock screen appeared and wait for the unlock code.

I search a lot of article on the web , and all of them talk about flash the rom , but need to do it from the HERO menu.

Is there any method/option to flash the rom from the SD card only ? some emergency help - even delete all phone content.

Yes there is a way to do this.

Just download the RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622

and try to install it.

If it doesnt work, start the RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe again and then press Start+R and type appdata in the field then confirm it with enter.

Then go to Local/Temp there is a folder what is names like this {bd392798-630c-409e-9e42-07bf0f925850} open it and find the rom.zip and copy it to your desktop or anywhere. Rename the ROM.zip to HEROIMG.zip and copy it to your SDCARD. then start the phone while holding back and power (with the sdcard inside) then press the volume down key and wait. Then u should confirm the update and after this u can start playing ;-) BUT BE SURE U HAVE A GSM HERO NOT AN CDMA HERO !!!! I found the file , and try to boot the phone with the HEROIMG.zip

is goes exactly as you say , but i got - on the phone screen:

CID incorrect !

Update fail!

Do you want to reboot device ?

to bypass the CID lock, you will need a gold card and to make that you need the phone to be functional as normal. either way the carrier sim-lock is not on the rom. even if you managed to flash a different rom, it will be still locked to the original network. you will have to either buy an unlock code online or use something like rebel sim.

Where u bought the phone?its branded!?

Try it without the phone menu maybe usb debugging is enabled by default

To unlock the phone you should go here: http://www.htccode.com/

If the unlocking requires you to have an Orange sim card in the phone then either get a pay as you talk card or you must know someone with an Orange phone to borrow it from.

Try using a few differnet ROM's for different operators. The CID error is because it's been programmed to expect a certain 'brand' of RUU update.

You may also need to update your SPL if you have not done that yet. I found Paul's sticky'd one worked perfectly.

Have a look through this post for a hopefully more detailed explaination.

I think the Orange Rom I used was 2.73.61.66. I've just found what I think was the heroimg.zip I used (click on heroimg.zip to download, just started uploading while posting this, so it might take about 30 mins before it's available). Give it a go and see if it works (after checking your SPL is up to date).

Ignore all that, mis-read your post. Have you managed to Root your phone yet using the Unlockr on click method (link below).

If you root it and intall a custom recovery, like Amon-ra, then load up the recovery menu and flash your desired rom using the 'flash zip from sd' option.

1. Head over to The Unlockr to see how to root your phone and install a custom recovery.

2. Once completed, reboot the phone into recovery (hold the back button while powering on) and flash your chosen ROM using the 'Flash zip from SD' option. I've had no problems with the CID doing it this way

If you can't root because of the version you're running, ley me know and I'll post the RUU and heroimg.zip for v 2.73.61.5 as I can't remember if the link on The Unlockr still allows you to download the older version any more.
