Guest kman123 Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 (edited) Does anyone know how to use the camera flash on the desire as a torch? A quick search on the market shows an app for the nexus one,but it requires root, and also someone in the comments said because its unofficial it will mess up the hardware? Has anyone got any ideas/views on this topic? Thanks. Edited April 10, 2010 by kman123
Guest kman123 Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Sorry,I meant the flash for the camera. I'm getting confused, lol.
Guest HearThatVoiceAgain Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 My understanding of it is this. You cannot access the API's necessary to switch the LED on and off as android does not allow direct user access to the hardware under normal curcumstances. With root you have permission to do what you like. The only way this would be possible is if HTC or Google wrote and app that allowed it or added an API to the source that would give the user access. I think we will have root before either of those happen, so just sit tight.

Thanks for the reply. its a but annoying, but good to know that there might be a fix soon.looks like i have a reason to want root when its readily available.

Guest afiorillo Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 I've found the Nexus One apps very unstable on the Desire; the one forementioned here often gives errors when turning off or on the LED, other apps conflicted with camera and video recorder apps, rendering them not usable until a reboot.
