Guest mrsands Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Is there a way to stop multi tasking on the omnia i900?, or limit the amount of apps runing at the same time? I'm thinking I only want 3 apps running at most at one time -- like: Activesync, a taskmanager, any other program. What I'm thinking of is maybe a cab that will automatically close the least (or last most used) used running program when a fourth program is ran thus always limiting the maximum amount of programs running at any one time to 3.
Guest Abqcub Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Why don't you just close the programs after your done using them? Try Showcase Suite, it'll close you application when you hit the X button.
Guest mrsands Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 lets say I have activesync running in the background, while listening to music (2 running), then I want to browse some pages (3 running), then I get an sms (4 running), then I get a call, at this point omnia is likely to lag very very painfully.

I see your point, but that setup seems like it would frustrate me more. So if you have a limit of three programs you'd have to setup some sort of priority of what you want running because it would just swap out whatever application to launch the new one starting up. I think you'd run into problems in a scenario similar to this: If you have activesync running, music, and browser, and then you get a call, its going to force out one the applications for the phone function, which may be troublesome because you then have to relaunch the program that was closed and wait for it to startup, and if it was a game, document, or something that needed to be saved, it could become a major problem . I think another problem would be that in the process of killing one program and starting another this script or program in theory, would take up memory as well, and just bog down your system, probably just temporarily though. I think some form of system optimization would be a better solution to your memory problems. I can right off the bat recommend CleanRam and ClearTemp for free programs and SKTools if you wanna pay for something, and of course showcase suite as I mentioned earlier. If your comfortable try flashing to a custom rom. I've been constantly disappointed with the memory lag on this phone and its one of the many reasons I'm in the process of getting rid of it, but using those programs I mentioned kept my phone at a very usable level even with 4+ applications open and using SPB Mobile shell.
Guest mrsands Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 I'm already using Ock's Ultralight 6.5 rom, I am using showcase and the tools that you have mentioned and I still find the phone laggy, it's just the bad design of the phone I guess, no matter what we try to do to make it better, we can never go past the limitations of the original design. Thankfully my contract ends soon, maybe time to get an iphone that I should have gotten in the first place or a desire.

With the betas the memory management was such a crap, that it was crashing even the other running applications (nimbuzz, skype, fring). With the latest release it's not that bad, but still far from a desired situation IMHO. Opera mini is better, but as you know is not a secure solution so... - cleanup the /windows/startup processes. there are some threads here @modaco. 3-4 processes can go away easily and the phone is much better with multitasking afterwards I don't think I have a noticeable lag problem when I'm doing the things you describe...have you tried another rom?
