Hi all,

I am having serious problems connecting my Hero to the PC using usb cable.

I read a lot about this but havnt found any solution yet.

I am using win7 ultimate 32bit. I try to install the drivers manually, i downloaded the HTC sync and the HTC SDK but nothing help.

When i go to Devices and Printers i see the android phone as Unspecific.

I try manualy update the driver from the device and printers and also from the device manager nothing helped.

In the device manager i can see the android phone driver.

I am using the Modaco 3.2 ROM.

Please good people help me!!!!

Thanks

This worked for me on Win7 x64 (although I don't use HTC sync)

http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html

Download the Android SDK, and then install the USB driver updated in the built in updater program, then go to device manager, install driver manually, and point the installer at the SDK directory with "subdirectories" ticked, and Win7 kind of sorts itself out.

One more thing when i try to update the driver i get Windows was unable to install your My Htc.

I browse to the driver in the SDK or the HTC Sync but always i am unable to install the driver.

Maybe theres a problem with my ROM?

Thanks for the replay. I installed the new HTC SYNC but again when i connected my phone win announced that it is unable to install the driver.

I went to the device manager and try to update manually the driver but windows was unable to install the driver.

I managed to install the driver only when i choose: " let me pick a list of device...". Then choose the My Htc driver (i try also to install the NIDS driver)

Now i can see in the device manager - Android Usb Device and the My Htc installed under it but on the Devices and printers the android phone is on the Unspecified section and i don't get any new device in My Computer.

I connected my phone to a virtual machine with Win xp and i got a new Device immediatly with no problem. The problem is only with win 7 ;)

Here you go :-

HTC_Driver_x64.zip

Extract the driver into a folder. For example, %SystemDrive%:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x64 (for the Windows 7 64-bit)

Update the driver (accessible from Properties -> Hardware tab) for incorrectly installed Android Phone from the Devices and Printers

menu in Windows’ Start Menu, by selecting the copied driver location. If no ADB driver been installed yet, just install the driver directly by right click on the .INF file and select Install.

The HTC Hero phone should now displayed as “My HTC”, and will be able to sync with Windows 7.

Thanks for the help,

If you are only interested in Mass Storage, you don't need a driver (mass storage uses generic drivers, that's why it's a feature)

If it is asking for drivers, you probably have USB debugging enabled. If you're not going to use ADB, you might as well turn this off, and stop the prompts.

To access Mass Storage mode, plug in the device to your PC, then open up the notifications drawer, click "USB Connected" and then click "Mount"

To unplug it, you "Safely Remove" from Windows, then open up the notification drawer, and click "Disconnect USB", then you can unplug it.

HTH.
