3g + Orange PAYG

Not sure if anyone else finds this, but on PAYG Orange (100mb free Internet per month), my connection icon is always G, never turns to 3G and the download speed rarely touches about 30kb/s. Even when in the town centre where I can scan for networks and join Orange 3G, it will still only display a G and connect INCREDIBLY slowly...

My question is, is anybody else using Orange PAYG on their Pulse? Is it a limitation due to being on PAYG, am I missing a setting somewhere?

Any help is appreciated ;) The settings I'm using are as follows:

Name: Orange Internet

APN: orangeinternet

Proxy: <Not set>

Port: <Not set>

Username: <Not set>

Password: <Not set>

Server: <Not set>

MMSC: <Not set>

MMS Proxy: <Not set>

MMS Port: <Not set>

MCC: 234

MNC: 33

APN type: default

-----

These are the settings most people seem to be having most success with, but I can only get uber-slow connections ;)

You might have a 2G SIM card. What phone did you get with the SIM?

I don't have that option, just "Use only 2G networks" which is unticked, and "Data Service" which is ticked. Oh, and "Data roaming", which is unticked.

Hmm... Good question. I think I got this SIM when I bought my SE W810i, though it might be even older than that... Problem is I want (need) to keep this number. Is there a simple way of transferring the number to a more recent SIM?

Thanks for the replies so far! ;)

Yes!

Give them a call and they will just port it over to a new sim. I got one of those free ones when I needed it done a while back and then they just took that sim number and made that active and my old 2g one became inactive.

It was a few years ago, as I moved to T-mob after that.

Absolutely certain, and it doesn't give me an option to prefer 3g O_o When I get some time later this afternoon I'll upload a screenshot of the WiFi options!

I have all the same setting apart from name, mine is - Orange WEB and it works fine, try changing that if you haven't already

is there anyway to put that sim in another phone and test to see if you are able to get 3g in there?

that would be the best step!

did the original t-mobile sim that come with the phone work fine on 3g?

If you have already tried that then you can try having a go at the settings again...

Using this o2 mms thread (contains settings for other networks I got my vodafone mms working through that and my internet still works using thoes settings) http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...2-mms-problems/

you can replace the settings using the below attachment (following instructions in the above thread)
