Guest dwattsy21 Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 Hi Guys, Anyone have a good way of getting DVD's onto my hero? Goin on holiday soon and fancy watching the office on the plane. Just downloaded one bit of software, then after setting it up, turns out its a trial version, only lets you do 3 minutes worth. Cheer, Dave

Cheer, Dave Personally I'd use DVD Decrypter & Megui (with the Android G1 x264 profile, modified to use 2 ref frames), as that gives me full control over the encode, with as much or as little automation as I want.
Guest dwattsy21 Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Please could you post a link to where i can get this DVD decryptor. This is what i use to rip it to my computer right? Is it free? Also could you please post a link to that Megui software please. Thanks, Dave
Guest zorm Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) Please could you post a link to where i can get this DVD decryptor. This is what i use to rip it to my computer right? Is it free? Also could you please post a link to that Megui software please. Thanks, Dave All this software is free. Much of it is open source ;) DVD Decrypter is of dodgy legal status in some countries & yes, it does the ripping, which is why its status is dodgy. If you go to a site such as VideoHelp.com & search for it (search icon's at the top right of the page), you should find it straight away. Megui can be found on Sourceforge. When you install it it will automatically download & install (with your permission) lots of tools which it needs to handle audio & video processing & encoding; it will also keep itself up to date. There's a small wiki about Megui, which is very helpful to get you started. You'll also need to install AVIsynth manually. You can download AVIsynth here. The latest stable version, which is 2.5.8, should be fine. You may wish to install Nero's free aac audio encoder. The installation instructions for Megui cover all of this. Don't worry that you need to understand or learn all about AVIsynth - Megui will handle it for you. However if you are interested there's plenty of info around & you can use any skills you acquire with AVIsynth via Megui as it lets you take greater control of the whole process should you wish. This is the Megui wiki guide to DVD ripping & transcoding. I tend to use the AutoEncode option, which makes the previous steps a little simpler. For further tutorials, tips & help, I'd check out the Doom9 & Doom10 forums. Edited April 14, 2010 by zorm
Guest zorm Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 http://lmgtfy.com/?q=dvd+decrypter When DVD Decrypter development was first shut down at least one website was allegedly posing as an official site but was being run by the people who wished to see DVD Ripping be made a serious crime on a par with murder. It was assumed they were tracking downloaders of this software. Thus at the time it wasn't a good idea to pick a random download source off a search engine. I think this isn't an issue anymore, but I'd still be inclined to get it from a known reputable site. In any case that makes sense with all software, to avoid assorted viruses.
Guest dwattsy21 Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Cool thansk very much zorm, I'll try that out now! Cheers
