Facebook contacts with numbers showing

Hey all,

Just received my Desire and loving it. My only issue so far is that even though I've selected in the People app only to display Google contacts there seems to still be Facebook contacts appearing, albeit only the ones who have entered phone numbers into their Facebook profile.

This causes duplicate entries for the same person in messaging apps (default and Handcent) and in the People app it seems to prefer to show the Facebook contact details rather than the Google ones.

Any ideas?

You can link the two profiles together in the people app so that the appear as one. You can also set individual numbers / email addresses to be the primary point of contact.

The linking has happened automatically, unfortunately it doesn't stop the contact showing up twice. For example, I have a friend Hailei, she has an entry in my google contacts with her phone number, this contact is linked to her facebook profile on which she has a fake contact number.

If I create an SMS and type in Hailei as the recipient I get presented with both the real number and her fake facebook number and there's no way to stop this happening.

AFAIK the only way to sort this is to get your friend to remove the fake or change it to the real number on facebook. I've had this problem on my HTC Desire and My Girlfriend also noticed this on her Motorola Dext.

You can stop the phone listing all your facebook contact and only show the picture. You have to change the sync settings for facebook to "dont sync" then remove your facebook account, and re-add it again, them link you individual contact...

I had the same issue with a couple of contacts, one of which exists only as a Facebook contact and has a fake mobile number listed on his Facebook profile. Solved creating a fake contacts on the phone (NOT on Google Contacts) with a fake phone number, linking it to the Facebook account and setting this latter fake number as preferred.

Have you looked at an app called 'SyncMyPix'? A beta version that works on android 2.1 can be downloaded from http://code.google.com/p/syncmypix/downloads/list

I deleted my facebook account on the phone, ran syncmypix and, although there was a bit of fiddling involved to make sure that it picked up the right facebook contacts (it tries to match your phone contacts with your facebook contacts and in my case got a few wrong - pretty easy to fix manually though) it works...

How do you set a particular number as being preferred ? I have tonnes of facebook friends with phone numbers that won't work in my calling area, and i'd really like the phone to default to the numbers i've manually entered for them, instead of preferring the FB info.

Annoying thing is; when I go to my phonebook I only see my google phone contacts list which I created but when I sync with my bluetooth BURY CC9060 (I think that's the one) car kit, it bloody downloads all my facebook contacts to the phonebook on my car kit!

Now add your facebook settings and account, go into your contact and link the individual names

is there a way to link contacts but only draw profile pictures and feeds not numbers? because most of my friends have stuff like 999 etc as there mobile on fb. and the phone replaces the current number with that. and when u unlik the profile it goes back to the normal number is there a fix for it?

ok, so i did this. when i remove the facebook account, there is no longer a listing in accounts & sync.

when i add it to get the entry and unlesect sync contacts, there are no FB contacts to link ..

not being able to select the default number is a right pitta...

Yeah im getting the same issue as Br1an_g. Really annoying!
