Guest MountfordD Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 Try this: http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php/Huawei_U8220 Even though the wiki is for the U8220, the section on tethering is universal.

Guest ascot17 Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 That sounds like it probably isn't WIFI tethering... True.... didn't read the question properly! BUT... Why would anyone WANT to WiFi tether...???? If you have a laptop and a WiFi signal what use is tethering to you.....????

Having a laptop and a WiFi card doesn't make one to have a WiFi modem/router and a DSL contract too, nor a WiFi spot in range. WiFi tethering is simpler than USB one since doesn't require cables; and, moreover, allows multiple PCs to share the same mobile internet access.

I used WiFi tethering all the time with my hero - I'm often working where there is no WiFi signal, or only expensive pre/post-pay hotspots. Similarly the WiFi in the nearby library is so locked down with restrictions that even the google personalised home page won't connect - plus my HSDPA is much much faster. As for why WiFi rather than cable? I use a slip case on a hewlett-packard 2710p ultraslim tablet. With the extended battery I get about 8-10 hours use. I don't even carry a power cable so bringing along extra cables "just in case" is not a priority. Obviously with the Desire, been a bit limited. Still don't want to carry the cable, as I only have the one micro-usb cable that came with the phone, and don't particularly want or risk losing or misplacing it! Resorted instead on taking my SIM card out and using the built in 3G of laptop. In case you haven't used it - it works by creating an ad-hoc network between your computer and phone, then uses the phones 3G connection for access. -Andrew.
