Guest WhatID Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 I just realized my phone is completely dead. i.e. Press power button does nothing. Tried to use paper clip on reset button does nothing. Look lifeless at this moment. I have it connected with the original USB cable to my PC, nothing happens. Windows doesn't even sees it. It is on ORIGINAL Bell ROM. Here is what I think it might happen... Battery was running low last night and I forget to plug it to the charger. So I guess the battery is completely drained. Normally, this is no big deal, all you need to do is charge it up again. For all my previous phone, I just need to hook it up to my USB cable and it will start charging. HOWEVER, I think how Omnia works is it need a driver to be install on your PC so that the phone be able to communicate in order to even accept power from the USB port. Who do I know? The first day when I received the phone, I tried to use the USB cable to charge but tried not to install the software. It will not charge at all. So now, I will have to wait til I get home and try to charge it with the "real" charger. Am I making any sense here? Or is my phone really f'd up? If it is true that Omnia needs to communicate with PC before it can even accept power, that ^%$#@ stupid! (maybe I will see if I can tape over the data line in my USB port and fool it as a charger and see if that charges...) ARGGGHHHH!!!!
Guest WhatID Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Just taped over the two data pin in USB port still no luck to get it start charging.... (the power button doesn't even light up) &*%$@@!!
Guest WhatID Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Ah ha.. this may explain why my quick hack doesn't work http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?p=1745623 Maybe I need to mod the connector on the phone side... which is much harder... F&*%$#!
Guest modacorule Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 You need to use the wall charger. USB cable does not push enough to recharge a dead phone.
Guest andrew.mazlim Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 You need to use the wall charger. USB cable does not push enough to recharge a dead phone. Never, ever, charging your i900 by usb! That's why they giving you charger in the box, mate.
Guest WhatID Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Yup. just get home and wall charger works. But why doesn't Omnia charge via USB? ;) This is the first phone I have WILL NOT charge from USB if the battery is completely dead. In theory, 500mA may not be enough to power up the phone, but it should have enough current to charge up the battery to a state it can power up itself after a period of time. IMHO this is a stupid and annoying design. ;) And yes, I confirm the connector on the phone side is different between the charge plug and the sync cable plug. Looks like as if the phone need to complete the USB hand-shake before taking power from the USB port.... ARGGGHHHH!! Things to remember, don't ever leave home with the battery that's almost dead w/o taking the wall charger..... (or unless this is a firmware thing... Some said their phone can charge via USB but was not clear if the battery is completely dead.. can someone confirm?)
Guest WhatID Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 You need to use the wall charger. USB cable does not push enough to recharge a dead phone. Time to invest a wall charge for the office.. sigh. (Just ordered an additional USB cable thinking I can use that to charge my phone at work and in the car....)
Guest modacorule Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 I actually use the usb cord to charge at work and home. I just take the usb connection to My Storage on the omnia and it's fine. But if the phone is completely dead... you will need to wall charger to revive it. Glad everything is good.
