Guest Davman Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Hi, I received my Desire on Monday this week and i'm on orange. 3G simply does not work, which is very annoying. I connect and I know i'm in a strong 3G area. The 3G or H symbol appears but the up arrow is the only one that lights up and not the down one. This is so frustrating. GPRS and Edge work fine. 3G has worked briefly but generally doesn't. I have changed SIM and am getting the same issue so this begs the question, is it a faulty handset or are Orange rubbish for 3G? Has anyone else had any issues? Thanks, Dave
Guest triran Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 You have the "H" appear? My Orange Desire refers HSPA as 3G+ No issues though.
Guest Jonnyw2k Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Tried a different phone? could be the mast thats at fault.
Guest Davman Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Tried a different phone? could be the mast thats at fault. I'm going to try a different phone today when someone lets me! Interesting about the 3G+ thing though. Mine is unlocked and has no Orange software in it. That could be the difference maybe.
Guest Davman Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 The plot thickens. I put an O2 SIM in the phone and low and behold - it works very well. Really strong HSDPA connection. I then put my SIM back into it and that now works too! It's almost like I need to turn the device on and off for it to work or something. Interestingly enough it was this time yesterday that it randomly worked. All of this points to Orange being rubbish in some way! I've got 2 other Desire-ites in the office swanning around with their T-Mobile devices pleased as punch!

Hi, I have seen this issue but it is intermittent, usually when an email or exchange account is syncing, Orange WCDMA as a rule is the best in the UK and offcom confirm this, dense coverage and the fastest speeds.
Guest Kh0shHalam Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 Having the same problem. Was using o2 simcard in my desire until yesterday and it worked perfectly fine! always had connection. Today my number was transfered to orange and it just don't work  I've tried everything. called orange they run me through their basic process (obviously not helped) I restored factory settings - still did not help. Am not even bothered about 3g ... it would be enough if any kind of internet connection (other than wifi) would work. Any suggestions guys? :P

Called Orange a few times to fix it and on Sunday "handset faults" put me onto "networks faults" who confirmed they have a issue on the 3G link my simcard connects to in certain areas. They explained that the link is 1 of 72 orange use and is preset on the sim. My wifes orange sim works fine in the my phone and mine does not work in her Hero. They did mention the CB and CO postcodes if that helps. They said they will call or text with a repair update. Andy

A trip to the phone store and a new sim rectified that. I doesn't sound like it's Orange or the phone. As in my case, it's probably just an outdated/defective sim card.

Guest minihassan Posted May 13, 2010 Report Posted May 13, 2010 (edited) Not sure if i have issues but 3g works and doesnt work in different areas only way i can fix it is by rebooting phone is there anything available to refresh 3g settings or something or look into to it coz it annoying on stock build removed orange branding too or is it me and there service? also it was working fine on orange rom saying 3G+ which is oranges icon for H(no need for reboot in different areas). I do get H but rebooting of phone is annoying. Also i have spoken to orange they have resent all messages and still nothing doing samething , Ive never had these issues with my 02 3g works all time everywhere with no need to reboot?? Anyone? Guest dunbad Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 The issue is with the phone and not the carrier. There are many posts on this subject on many different forums. Htc have apparently been looking at this issue for over a year on the android system. Switching to aeroplane mode and back usually fixes it. If not a power on/off, required. As yet there is no proper fix just a couple of work rounds that quieten things down.
Guest dchuraman Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 this has been happening for 6 months on my Hero on t-mobile, seems to be affecting everyone on the Tmobile forum, a lot of us have just got replacement Desires but the issue is still there though not as bad. I bet you will also find that when you see the up arrow flashing and no data being transferred, that if you try to call your mobile, i bet you wont get through.

Guest nekromantik Posted May 14, 2010 Report Posted May 14, 2010 I sometimes get that on Orange. Like yesterday for about 5 mins I could not get any data connection and then 3G and HSDPA works fine. It keeps switching between H and 3G though.

It keeps switching between H and 3G though. Thats how HSDPA works. It only does HSDPA when transferring data then goes back to a 3 symbol. Its not a problem.
Guest dunbad Posted May 16, 2010 Report Posted May 16, 2010 Thats how HSDPA works. It only does HSDPA when transferring data then goes back to a 3 symbol. Its not a problem. There is a problem with the desire and all the networks. If your unlucky enough to have one of the effected handsets you will have intermittent mobile data. Switching the phone off and on again will reset it.There maybe an issue with the carrier, but it is extremely likely that your phone has got this bug. it simply refuses to give you the arrows with data passing. And it should not flick constantly between 3g and edge or hsdpa fir no reason.if the phones not moving around and your not downloading it should remain pretty constant.some people are claiming it switches for no reason.if that's you this is part of the problem with some handsets.
