Samsung Omnia i900 - charging with USB (computer, charger)

Maybe my experience will help someone. I had a problem. In short: I have an original wall Samsung charger and original Omnia USB cables (APCBS10BBE, APCBS10UBE) - both worked fine connected to a computer: after conncecting, Omnia indicated battery loading (an icon in the corner of the screen).

The problem arose when I tried to use an USB wall charger. It did not work - neither when Omnia was on nor when it was off. The same situation was when I pluged it (via both cables) to USB port in Xpal XP18000 emergency battery charger. Omnia (while beeing on) just emited sound as if it was connected to a computer or to a charger, but gave no other indications (the icon).

I tried many ways - shorting 2nd and 3rd pin (green and white wire), checking the current in USB port pins.. Finaly I found that in one of the a wall chargers there are only two wires - red and white (but colours did not matter actually). I cut it and extracted the wires to sample them, then cut another cable to have an USB plug and extracted wires. Then I pluged red wire (the cut cable - Samsung tip side) to the red wired (-, an USB plug side) and white (Samsung tip) to black (+, USB plug side). I tried other combinations without result.

Then I risked switching + and - . So I connected: red - black and white - red. Eureka ;) Finaly it worked! Worked commecting to a computer, to a USB wall charger, to XP18000. Omnia changed the icon to "charging".

So it seems normal USB cable is made for "data transmission mode" only (maybe it negotiates the current) and switching the + and - pins means for Omnia the "charging mode".

Hope that may help.
