Not trolling...this is not funny anymore...i am happy when i get Froyo on some device...never need to ask htc for the update anymore....Elair 2.1 is out since January 12....
Guest trstn Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Chill out. The Hero is still a great phone, still does everything I need it to, and with MoDaCo rom it flies. Really don't care all that much about getting 2.1, it'll happen when it happens, and it'll make me happy, but my life's got more to it than waiting for new phone firmware. Paul; can't we have one topic pinned called "2.1 whining" and then ban any mention of it everywhere else?
Guest Don/Donald/Donnie Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Original twitter post for Sprint said H1 2010. That was never going to translate to Q1 2010 but sounded better than saying Q2 2010. (The Boy Genius Report reminded me of the Sprint tweet way back then, had forgotten it in amongst all the shrapnel flying around about 2.1) Just been looking at some figures for Android (http://developer.android.com/resources/dashboard/platform-versions.html), in the two weeks to 12 April, only 27.3% of handsets that accessed the android market had 2.1. Nearly 75% of Android phones [that accessed the Android Market in that time] are either not capable of running the latest android release or do not have a manufacturer that is releasing the latest version for the phone (in some cases for phones that are not even a year old) and more than 2 out of every 3 Android phones are on 1.6 or less. I know the OS is still very young but the manufacturers are breeding such a lot of bad feeling. As I've said so many times before, I don't deserve an update and was never guaranteed one by HTC but, really, we all expected one didn't we? Full disclosure: I am an uneducated bitter Hero user

Guest Remington Steale Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 (edited) i think of giving up & move to motorola milestone what do u think people? Why? The only real issue is that some apps are 2.1 only now, other issues are mostly personal niggles (I dont use bluetooth so the problems with the stack on that are neither here nor there to me). 2.1 is more about eye candy than anything else, cant guarantee it will be faster or better performing than the current Modaco rom, in fact after trying a raft of the 2.1 leak roms I am none too sure upgrading will help much. Guest Don/Donald/Donnie Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 based on this study I would say no to the idea of moving to the Milestone if it's just for 2.1.

Guest Influencer Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 I understand everyone wanting the newest and best OS, and updates are always great...well, not MS updates, but thats a different story. I just can't help but to think that not but a few years ago it was unheard of for cell phones to get updates of any kind. These phones still work, so if an update is late...its late, atleast you haven't paid for it. Most of us got the phones for a few hundred bucks, which is the same thing we paid for those crappy flip phones 4 years ago, so why's it matter?

Most of us got the phones for a few hundred bucks, which is the same thing we paid for those crappy flip phones 4 years ago, so why's it matter? ;) We're talking about smartphone here mate. These days it's very very common for updates even for digital cameras, MP3's etc. On a very fiercely fought competitive market, manufacturers nowadays DO provide regular updates to fix something that was not apparent initially on release or put on market too soon. Depending on the usage, it's upto consumers whether they can risk the updates or not. Agreed HTC did provided updates for Hero. The problem is the version 1.5 on Hero while Google has already moved to higher numbers. Almost all new phones are being released with new 2.1 system. Now the Android is blooming, developers are jumping and applications are being released to improve the functionality of "Smartphone". Somewhere online you see a recommended application which you think is what you need but doesn't support older 1.5 android. Fine and continues with life only to find that list continues to grow upto the point of frustration. As the applications are not compatible with previous Android, It is my belief that 2.1 has major updates than meet the eye. Yeah we can blame devs but where 1.5 versions was available, functions were very limited than that was running on newer 2.1. Codes for 2.1 was already released by Google, it's just that HTC failed to put on place for Hero. Again agree that I've paid for Hero with 1.5 but only bought after doing some research when newer versions were expected to be released soon. I'm a huge fan of HTC, used them when most people never heard of the company and recommended my friends the phones. Now it seems that they have finally turned BIG ;) . It's a disappointment.
