Google Maps Navigation working in the UK?!

Since when did the proper Google Maps Navigation (not a hacked version) start working in the UK then?

Just loaded it up this morning, pressed a button by mistake and it's working, full turn by turn with voice.

(Update: Engadget now confirming)

Thanks - Working for me as well! No need to update anything - Just started working.

I have now removed the "hacked maps (Brut)" and it still works.

That was my first thought, I wondered if the Brut maps borked the normal Maps app (in a good way) but seemingly not.

Just heard it highlights multiple routes as per current traffic conditions. Nice.

Working on mine too with the Brut version removed. Reconfigured my Nav Launcher to use native Google Maps! ;)

Works on N1, someone at work told me. Very cool. It was there end not ours. Seems that as there servers do the work they just needed to turn it on. Maybe the delay was due to load testing in the US first.

Although an official note from google would be nice.

Launch up Google in your Desire Browser and the Main Page has link "New Google Maps Navigation"

I'm a bit confused.

I have navigation, I have the latest maps, I have TTS, I have the volume up, but I don't have voice instructions on-route. I see no way I could have switched it off, and therefore no way to switch it on.

Anyone else find it a bit slow?

I raced my friend who has iPhone 3GS with Tom Tom installed. I was bragging about google street view blah blah, by the time it had all loaded for me we were at the destination and his Tom Tom loaded in seconds.

TomTom has the maps installed on the internal memory, so this could be the reason for the better time of loading.

But I don't know it for sure.

I'm looking forward to get Google Maps Navigation on my Desire here in Germany. After that, I can say more about the speed of this great feature.

To be fair it is free so perhaps I shouldn't groan.

His TomTom app was free on a jailbroken device but apparently it's only a matter of time before iPhone/iPod touches software updates become mandatory therefore Tomtom and all other apps might require his full payment. I look forward to that day so I can point and laugh.

For anyone in the know, if they can clarify is TomTom available on Android?

You're right - Google Maps Navigation is free, so it needn't to be as good as Tom Tom.

But I got a free Tel Map Navigation from O2 so it would be nice to know, which is the better one.

Another fact about non-free-apps is that you are able to use them directly without root-access on Android. You just need the .apk-file.

But at the moment, there is no Tom Tom app for Android released and no one knows, when they will release it.
