Text Messaging Issues

My dilemma: Text messages take a LONG time to display after clicking on them and I don't know why. I can click on the message from the top bar or the message icon and either way, it's slow!

My setup:

Motorola Droid

Running stock 2.1-update 1 (downloaded version, but that shouldn't matter)

Helix Launcher 2

Missed Call App

Took text limit for each contact down from 400 to 100 thinking that would fix it

Swype Keyboard (problem started before I installed this)

ATK Free

A bunch of other apps but I don't know how they'd affect this problem, so I didn't list them.

The problem seems to have surfaced after the 2.1 upgrade but I'm not positive.

Any thoughts?
