Guest AndyCr15 Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 So I've just adjusted my anti smudge (matt effect) screen protector, washed it off and re-applied but I couldn't help notice how vivid the screen looks without a screen protector on. I remember talk when I got my Hero that you didn't need a protector due to the coating on the screen. Is this the case with the Nexus One? How simple would it be, if I did scratch the screen (I don't think I would, I never put it in a pocket with anything else in for example) to have just the screen replaced? Can I take it to a shop, do I have to send it away? Is it expensive? How long could it take? How about you guys? I just automatically order and apply a screen protector, am I in the minority or majority?

After seeing this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=617807 I decided not to put a screen protector on my nexus one. Again, like you, I don't keep my phone in my pocket or anywhere else loose. It's either in the holster or in my hand. But the test in the video above says alot for the durability of the phone. Hope it helps in your decision. Edited April 22, 2010 by Darren Latil
Guest AndyCr15 Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 Ha ha, that guy is the nutz! Yeah, the only think I'm noticing already are the finger smudges. How much will they drive me mad I wonder? The screen does look amazing without the protector on though. The anti smudge one I have does lower the brightness of it somewhat.
Guest Robert Basil Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 (edited) I don't use any type of screen protector on my N1 and for the past 3 years never used one on any of my iPhones. Never had a scratch on any of them front or back. I just make sure that the phone is the only thing I carry in that pocket. A little bit of common sense is all you need when carrying your phone unprotected. :-) Edited April 22, 2010 by Robert Basil
Guest muncheese Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 I put a matte protector for glare and fingerprints after about two weeks with the phone. Then I got a scratch on it, removed it in order to apply the other one I had, but the screen was so god damn nice without a protector I decided to forgot about the fingerprints.
Guest tasty Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 I found that scrolling was smoother/easier after I applied a screen protector, and the lack of that glare was nice. The downside is due to the plastic, it creates a mild rainbow effect much of the time, but I think that's a fair trade for me. I also have a hard skin on the phone from seidio but I carry my phone in my pocket all the time and not in the included holster.
Guest Rafoolik Posted April 23, 2010 Report Posted April 23, 2010 if you really want a screen protector go for INVISIBLE SHIELD. I'm not using that but that's because its amazing how scratch resistant both the screen and body is on my N1. i only use a rubber case when im doing outdoor activities for fear of it falling and breaking...yea but....INVISIBLE SHIELD is what i used when i had my 3GS that stuffs good.
