Guest Pii Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 So, I'm running MoDaCo 3.2 on my Hero and was wondering how to set up and use apps2sd, as I am a complete android noob. I have an 8gb class4 card and my computer runs on Ubuntu 9.10 if that information is needed. All help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advanced. Pii

Pii Apps2sd runs automatically on Modaco as long as there is a ext partition on the SD card. If you installed the RA-hero recovery image you can set one up easily from there. Hope this helps.

And what size would you recommend? and also, what's a RA-hero recovery image? =/ (As I said, complete noob =/ )

It just surprises me that you don't know what the recovery image is . Ext 3 or 4, doesn't really matter. There are obviously specific differences between the two but they are subtle and won't likely make any difference to your experience. It would say realistically 512mb would be good for your ext partition, that is plenty when you consider the actual size of apps and how many you are going to have installed at any one time. Then keeps the rest of your card formatted to fat32 for all your mp3's and pictures and w/e else.

When the device is powered of hold home + power to get to the recovery screen. If at the bottom it says build: RA-hero you will be able to do the partitioning there by choosing 'Partition sdcard'. If it is the cyanogen version you will have to do it alternative way.

Oh right x.x Would that be more advisable than doing it on my computer?
Guest jay8ee Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Oh right x.x Would that be more advisable than doing it on my computer? Its just easier and automatic if you do it on the phone. Since you are on linux I would have no idea what to do because I have never used it

I checked my available memory space and it says 150mb?

Guest zorm Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) Install a few apps. The internal memory should not deplete. Since that is the benefit of apps2sd. Wrong. Typically apps2sd will move the /data/app & /data/app-private folders to sd, so all user installed apks get moved to sd. However app data & the Dalvik cache remain on internal flash. Hence installing apps will result in a drop in free space on internal flash; it will just be much less than without apps2sd. Use Kendon's link to check apps2sd is working, if one is still concerned.
