Applying ROM's

I am currently on MCR3.2, if I were to apply one of the 2.1 based ROM's would I still be able to apply Paul's new ROM without losing any info?

I just need some reassurance from the experts that my activity data will not be compromised...

Basically am I right in thinking that I can apply any ROM (Cyanogen or any 2.1 based), and so long it upgrades successfully I can always re-apply MCR3.2 with no adverse affects? (when I say re-apply MCR3.2 I am referring an upgrade and NOT to a nandroid restore).

I know I should know this...

Yes, you can return to any ROM with a wipe before flashing. But you will not have your data there (e.g. SMS messages, settings, etc.) - it will be default. You could try to flash a 2.1 ROM and apply another flash of MCR 3.2 without a wipe, but it would screw things up - but I guess you would be able to go to recovery mode.

Just make sure you have the update.zip files on your sdcard.

But I would suggest a nandroid backup, test some 2.1 ROMs and then revert back to the backup (I'm not sure if wipe is needed before restore, as it restores full partitions, except ext - this is just extracted). With this you will at least have your settings and data back (data on sdcard are not affected with wipes (except ext-partition, if you apply a wipe)).

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that if you use titanium backup to do a backup in MCR3.2, then use it to restore in a 2.1 ROM, I think that'll bring your SMS/settings etc across.

Can anyone confirm?

No! You can only restore your apps by Titanium Backup in a 2.1 ROM, Don't even think of restoring SMS,MMS,Contacts,System Settings etc. or else you'll be screwing up the ROM.

Android 2.1 uses a different database or storing Contacts and SMS's, So.......
