Guest goatee Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) I've stuck with my stock T-Mobile (UK) rom (build 1.76) through thick and thin, but can no longer bear having an unncessarily slow and laggy phone. My question is, at what point in the rooting process is my phone completely wiped? Also, is it possible to back anything up other than contacts, SMS, call logs (done with Wave Secure)? Also, I get the impression that the 2.1 roms suffer from battery problems (not to mention lowe res camera), so I'm looking at the 1.5 roms, but haven't been able to find any summaries of what's available in the different roms - essentially, I'd like one to have Sense, and all the apps that ship with the Hero, and with the performance improvements offered by roms like Paul's. TIA! Edited April 27, 2010 by goatee
Guest jay8ee Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 I would use Pauls Modaco 3.2 Rom to lose your rom flashing virginity. It's the most bug-free one out there and in my opinion the fastest too. The teknologist kernel that comes with 3.2 is absolutely kickass and the tweaks paul has done in Rom makes it so snappy. You phone is rooted once you have the custom recovery image I suppose, but it is free from all the t-mobile branding shiz once you flash your new rom. Do a nandroid backup incase anything goes wrong and you can go back to exactly how your phone was before flashing. There are a bunch of apps for backing up sms and contact stuff. Good luck!
Guest goatee Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Thanks Jay8ee! The MCR3.2 looks like the ROM to go with - so once I have the custom recovery image, my phone gets wiped? Only other thing, is how do I deal with paid for apps - when I get it back up, I can use nandroid / titanium backup to back up my apps, but before then, am I just reliant on the application providers? Thanks again. I would use Pauls Modaco 3.2 Rom to lose your rom flashing virginity. It's the most bug-free one out there and in my opinion the fastest too. Guest goatee Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Thanks again - yesterday I bit the bullet - easy as pie. My only confusion was that I didn't know that Nandoid + ext backup assumed a partitioned SD card (I didn't bother partitioning, as I'm not fussed with running apps off SD card). Once I got over that stumbling block, I flashed with 3.2 without bothering to wipe, and everything's perfect .
