a2sd

Hi, I'm pretty new to the android scene, got the phone this morning and have modaco's vanilla rom running on it with some apps.

Question is how do I get a2sd installed on the phone, and do the apps have to be on the extfs2 partition? If they do is there an easy way to do this in windows?

Sorry if my questions seem stupid, I've been looking around the forums for a day or so and haven't found anything that seems to help/apply

There are probably other ways to do this but here is how I would.

First you need to install the recovery image which is detailed in a sticky at the top of this thread.

You can boot to the recovery image by holding down the volume down button and red button on your Pulse as you switch it on.

In the menu you will see an option to format the SD. Be warned that you will lose everything on it so make sure you have backups of everything important. The default settings for the format are good enough, you should use those.

Once you have done this format it should have created and ext2 partition, a swap partition and the rest FAT. Most people here change the ext2 to ext3 which is another option in the recovery image.

After this I believe a2SD should detect the partition and work from then on. Yes the apps have to be on the ext2/3 partition.

Edit:

My mistake I thought a2sd was something completely different lol

Thanks for the help!

I've read somewhere that if you create a swap partition app2sd won't work proper...

Someone else maybe able to confirm this.

To get apps2sd to work all you do need to do is create an ext partition. Use the method stated above (ie flash the recovery image.) Then in the recovery menu, go to Partition SD card, format. and create the following

512mb EXT2 partition

0MB swap

Remainder NTFS

It is recommended after this is down to choose the next option down on the menu to convert ext2 to ext 3 (but don't do ext3-ext4)

(Off the top of my head I can't remember the exact terms). To change the values use the scroll ball up and down. Creating the remainder as NTFS will allow windows to see this partition and there you can add apps (.apk files). You can then install these from your phone.
