Is it possible to access contacts in my own application

surely it is possible to access the contacts list in the phone.

Has anyone managed?

I was thinking that an sms client that sends via gprs could be written without the hassle of the retrophone solution where a contact list needs to be exported

The sample code in the above link does show how to get contact information, which I think is what kasuka is after...

So an application that calls the local HTML file (the file with the SMS editor) with the contact number as a parameter could replace the HTML page used to select static contacts.
