I had the same error on my dad's Desire on orange as I posted above. I ended up using the Nimbu root method as his hboot was 0.75 so perfectly fine using this method. http://nimbu.amorvi.com/2010/05/how-to-root-your-htc-desire/ Edited June 24, 2010 by Robbie Khan
Guest spammyspam Posted June 24, 2010 Report Posted June 24, 2010 FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately) Are you on win7 x64? If so this is usually where it stops. I solved this by opening the batch file and entering the commands manually. There are two identical flash commands executed in serial. Make sure you do it twice, because the second flash behaved differently to the first. I suspect the above error is intentional, but that the second flash somehow doesn't get executed in the flash.

Guest Teovo Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Wanted to write and thanks all for your help in rooting my phone, A8181 Southeast Asia (purchased in Vietnam) version, 0.80 bootloader. Works great after much trial and error. Main error was assuming my unbranded phone didn't need a goldcard--not true. Second error was trying to do the goldcard procedure on Windows 7 64-bit laptop--not a good idea unless you want to fiddle with the .bat scripts, etc. Third error was using bad SD card--this is truly uncontrollable. I've arrived at the solution after trying the most stable of all methods--using tinycore and running through the process with linux. When that dead-ended with same error 42, the only conclusion was I really needed a good gold card. Once I ran through the goldcard procedures again, on a Win XP laptop with a new Transcend 2gig sd, I knew I was on the right track when the procedure spit out a different hex id than the previous one. And when I opened the two goldcard image side by side, the old image was missing several rows of data, whereas the new image was complete up to row 0170...Feeling confident, I skipped tinycore and used r6 in Windows, which ran smoothly and now my Desire is rooted. It was a wonderful experience and in the process, I learned lots about my phone and the Android / HTC community at large. Kudos to all the veteran die-hards and the newbies out there that stuck to it to root their phones, a small but worthwhile achievement. Again thanks much, it's not the destination but the journey that was fulfilling for me. Cheers.
Guest tonyep Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Thanks for the guide! works perfectly for me! It seems my unbranded Desire bought in Singapore do need a goldcard too. Did everything on a mac and it was pretty quick. Also, subscribed to ad-free! ;)
Guest DarthOps Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Hi peeps, anyone happen to have this file available? the media fire link is unavailable and the mirror is running at 30kb/s ;)
Guest dodolom Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 (edited) Hi Guys, So, I had a rooted HTC Desire but then were having some issues, so I decided to go back to stock ROM and downloaded the v.1.23.351.1 for Virgin Mobile because the phone was originally from Virgin Mobile, from this site - http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/ - Well, long story short, I now have a 1.23.351.1 HTC Desire with bootloader version of 0.80, is there a way to root this phone? On the very first page of this root guide, it says it has to be bootloader v.0.80 or below AND Rom v.1.21.xxx.x or below. Well, I have the v. 0.80 bootlader but not the required ROM, so what do I do? Appreciate your help. Thanks Edited June 25, 2010 by dodolom
Guest ben160972 Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 How do we update the radio after the rooting, because i cant find any bat file like "revovery-xxx method. Thanks
Guest spammyspam Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 What rooting method did you use? R6 requires fake-flash for recovery (check the sticky). Once you have fake flash, just copy the radio somewhere on your SD card, and then use the recovery via fake flash to navigate to and flash it.
Guest Moemen Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 Thanks Paul and everyone for making our lives easier. I used this method with a MAC and everything is working fine.. except for one thing: The wireless data from my carrier stops whenever I put my desire to sleep. The icons G/E/3G/H does not appear after I press the power button to wake the phone. In wireless settings, the mobile network is greyed and says turning on, and nothing happens when pressed. I have to long press the power button, turn off mobile network, then turn it back on. Sometimes this doesn't do the trick so I have to turn on airplane mode then turn it off again, and sometimes restart the phone. Then the icons appear, only to disappear when I put it to sleep again. I didn't have this problem before with my stock rom. Anyone have a solution for this?
Guest DLArts Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 Hi, maybe someone can help me. I tried to root my HTC Desire with this guide, but I failed. My Desire is unbranded, BootLoader 0.80.000 and ROM is v1.21.xxx, so I used the second download. I tried the guide with and without a goldcard, always with the same result: About to start flash... < waiting for device > sending 'zip' (138708 KB)... OKAY writing 'zip'... INFOadopting the signature contained in this image... INFO signature checking... FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail) sending 'zip' (138708 KB)... OKAY writing 'zip'... INFOadopting the signature contained in this image... INFO signature checking... FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail) Rebooting to bootloader... After some tries, I tried to root the T-Mobile branded HTC Desire of a friend, and it works fine, without any problems on the same OS (Win7 64Bit). I also used the same MicroSD Card, the same cable etc. The branded Desire also got BootLoader 0.80.00 and ROM v1.21.xxx and I did it the same way like before (with my unbranded Desire). After that I tried it again on various operating systems like Win7 32Bit, WinXP, Mac OSX, Linux Live CD and recreate the goldcard over 5 times, always with the same result, as posted above. Did anyone know, whats wrong and how I can root my HTC Desire? Thanks ahead for every answer, DLArts

Guest wizout Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Hello guys, I had a rooted Orange debranded Desire running MCR. Latelly I flashed back the official RUU 1.15.405.4 because the phone kept rebooting on its own. Now I wanted to root it again to restore a backup of my carrier rom but had no success with it. The first part of the flash fails with a message : FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately) The second part goes well. Once I get back to Bootloader menu, I try to launch Recovery but the phone goes back to HTC boot screen and remaing in a boot loop. Do you guys have any clues ? HBOOT 0.75
Guest Len1952 Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 Currently been trying to download r6_desire_root rom. Already taken near 3 hours and expect another before I get it. Rapidshare gives an error message. Why cant these files be posted to newservers or some other means? Tried last night at midnight and gave up for the same reason.

I've tried 4 times today for the 0.80 bootloader files. Every time they've been going at around 30kb/s and they never finish, stalling about 50% of the way through. They desperately need some better mirrors. Anyone? EDIT: Scratch that. This one worked great and the link provided for the tools is nice and fast... http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-root-the-htc-desire/ Edited June 29, 2010 by Relikk
Guest Cactus42 Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 First Post, so Hi everybody  Not my first time doing something like this but it is my first Android phone and so my first time trying to gain root access. BIG Thankyou to Paul for the guide and all the extras required. Took me about an hour/hour and a half start to finish, with making sure everything went right. Came out the other side with a fully working phone :D Now, to dive into the deep end and start playing with ROMs :D
