Guest kendon Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 wow... the development section of xda is full of 2.1 sense roms... you want us to list every single one here? and google maps with nav should work on every 2.1 rom, as long as you use brut's cracked version.

No need the brut version if ua re in US or UK. standard google map 4.1 are enabled with google nav for android 1.6+ in US and Uk
Guest Mike Beecham Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 really though...is any rom going to be as quick, lag free, and good battery life as a Modaco?
Guest kendon Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 none of the 2.1 roms work as well as the 1.5 roms, since we are lacking a production-quality kernel. the gps bug, the battery drain and probably other problems are still not fixed completely, and probably won't before the official release with a fully working kernel.
Guest Mike Beecham Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 I'm trying out SenseHero at the moment, and I have to say that it's pretty darned good. Everything works out of the box and the battery drain issue seems to be minimal. Listen, we all know that none of the 2.1 roms are going to be anything like Pauls 1.5 at the moment, but this is actually near as dammit. The other issue I was concerned with was the lag when typing, scrolling, etc....virtually none and I've been using it since last night.
Guest hp1 Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 +1 I'm off on a road trip tomorrow so really wanted some satnav, i've installed VillainRom 5, it took about 3 reboots before everthing was settled but now that it is, it all works (as far as I can tell). Google Nav works, battery drain isnt too bad but not as good as MCR 3+. I'll have a play, should keep me going until MCR 4!
Guest Musicmannetje Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 I have tried a couple of 2.1 roms in the past few days, about nearly every mentionable rom on http://hero-roms.blogspot.com/ but even after a wipe I end up looking at the HTC bootscreen for about half an hour. Just went back to good ol' modaco....
Guest hp1 Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 (edited) Does GPS actually work on VillainROM? Not managed to get a lock yet ( Edited April 30, 2010 by hp1
Guest BeerW0lf Posted May 1, 2010 Report Posted May 1, 2010 Does GPS actually work on VillainROM? Not managed to get a lock yet ( Yes, it does work. You just need to reboot with the gps set on. If you have the gps set to off, while phone boots, then gps will not work. I'm currently on villain rom 5.2. Battery drain is still a real ussue. 1day is not enough, when i got nearly 3days with MCR. Some people claim that the bug is caused by gps or camera hogging all cpu once used. Tbh I don't care what the cause is. I'm gonna revert back to 1.5. MCR 3.2 is still the best rom for hero.

Haha, i tried that just before I read your post, works a treat. Thanks though. Agree about battery drain, I get 1 day with Villain, always managed at least 2 with MCR.
Guest hp1 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Only issues I can find with VillainRom are that the LED never flashes for any notification, cant get any live wallpapers to work and I cant seem to change the lock screen wallpaper. Other than that, very nice.
Guest Geochelone Posted May 6, 2010 Report Posted May 6, 2010 The best 2.1 ROM so far is VanillaEclair. Good thing for me, maybe bad thing for you is VanillaEclair is vanilla 2.1. No Sense UI.
Guest mike enjoys android Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 http://www.villainrom.co.uk/ Cracking ROM! 1+ i'm using slidevillain. Works great!
Guest Mike Beecham Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 1+ i'm using slidevillain. Works great! Just started looking at this, until a Modaco 2.1 turns up...I have to say it's very fast and works quite well. I dont like the browser closing on me all the time though, but this is easily remedied with Skyfire, I guess!

Major problem I found with VillainROM was that Bluetooth audio doesn't work, i.e. I can't connect my phone to my car.
Guest delanvital Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Thanks for all the responses. I ended up with SuperHero 1.1 ROM, a new Villain ROM, and besides some minor stuff it works fine. No severe battery drain, gps works, all works basically. Bugs are so far minor and with the new Galaxy S drawer + live wallpapers it is a whole new experience. Been using it since this first post here, and I can only recommend it. Even has JIT running on it without any problems so far.
