Thinking of getting a htc desire

Morning guys

Please read all of this. My contract on orange finishes in august this year and i can upgrade my handset.

I have 2 main questions:

Currently i pay £20/month for 600 mins and unlimited texts

First:

Can i add an internet bundle and email to this for the same £20 a month

I want a htc desire.

Second:

I don't want my phone to be branded by orange - so is there a way to debrand this phone?

please help

I think you should be asking some of your questions to your friendly customer service or sales person from Orange... only they can tell you what you can and cannot have on your tarrif!!! But I am sure they would be happy to allow you to add a bundle to allow internet access, but from memory, the cheapest was at £35 over an 18monnth contract.

the firmware can be debranded to remove the Orange logos and specific branding... if they handset has an orange logo on it however, thats probably there to stay!!

You may also want to ask Orange how much they want you to pay up front for the handset... you may find it better for you to ask for your PUK code and move to another provider

http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...r-t-mo-handset/ has a guide regarding the debranding of the firmware.

I probably wouldn't recommend rooting if you're not too tech savvy. Although you can do it by following step by step instructions, I have to admit most guides expect you to know a little about what you're doing.

Someone should set up a 'rooting' service. Post them your phone, they root and send it back

Also, generally Orange will give you data for £5 a month, but as has been said, you might need a higher plan to get a Desire off them. Or, maybe just threaten to leave and they'll cut you a deal :P

just seen on mobiles.co.uk their phones come unlocked and debranded so no worries now.

are custom roms better than the firmware htc releases?

yeah, there is a few networks shipping the unbranded models at the moment... but they are looking to get the branded units out soon (three will ship only the branded ones from 3rd May).

I have not got my Desire yet (will probably be picking up one this weekend) so I cannot comment on loading in a custom firmware, but there are alot of good guys on here that have good knowledge and are very helpful!!

mobiles.co.uk are carphonewarehouse (I think) I'm not sure if all their phones are unbranded/unlocked, so I would be carefull there!! but it is very easy to find an unlocking service online or on the highstreet should you need it done

I got my desire from mobiles.co.uk for 30/month, 1200 mins unlim texts + web on a 24m contract with 6months half price line rental. Comparing this phone with iphone i wud definitely recommend it over iphone. Its faster and muchslicker and easier to use. Although iphone has been around longer so it has more apps but i think android market will soon catch up.
