Guest jdouce Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 does it have any impact on the card ... or is it worth jsut goldcarging my 16gb card and using it all the time
Guest magicpie1980 Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 yeah i would like to know this as well mate, im using my goldcard as my notmal sd card as well;)
Guest Karolis Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 As far as I know you can still use your card as normal. But don't quote me on this. I'm not sure how it would affect larger cards (I use 2 GB).
Guest afiorillo Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 The stock 4 GB card supplied with the Desire, once goldcard'd, continue to act as a normal 4 GB Micro SD card.
Guest Xeronage Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 All it does is overwrite the first 300 or so bytes of your SD card, which removes the MBR. But when you're just using it as storage this isn't a big deal. And you can always reset the MBR later.

Since it overwrites the MBR when turning it into a goldcard, am I correct in thinking that installing Apps2SD would reset the MBR again, as it changes the partition tables?

Nope. The partition table falls outside the first code area, where the goldcard gets written to. Edited April 30, 2010 by Xeronage

A2SD doesn't change anything on the storage devices itself, it simply "redirects" some folders from the main storage of the device to the SD card.
Guest kamidadevil Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 I have used my 8GB card as gold card, installed a2sd, created partitions then installed the delvic upgrade, now using it as normal sd card and everything is working fine.
Guest kamidadevil Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 how can you convert a gold card back to a normal sd card, im asking this coz I read somewhere that sometimes gold card can cause problems.
Guest blackhorse Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 how can you convert a gold card back to a normal sd card, im asking this coz I read somewhere that sometimes gold card can cause problems. I have many spare micro SD cards so just in case I've sickered it as a special flash card. I realise its probably not needed but what else am I going to do with 10, 1 gig cards!
Guest Ellis Grouse Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 If I were to apply the GoldCard patch -after- I had setup Apps2SD and partitioned my microSD and the like, would all files and partitions remain intact? Or would I have to create a backup manually and then repartition?

When reformatting the card, Windows will place the DOS boot record at sector 0 and the MBR after the DOS boot record. The SD Card user module is not capable of working when the DOS boot record is placed in Sector-0. To fix this issue, follow the steps below. (1) Download Panasonics SDFormatter V2.0 (free utility) (2) Insert SD card into Windows PC (3) Format the SD card with the Panasonic utility, SDFormatter V2.0, using the following options. - Format Type: Quick - Format Size Adjustment: Off (4) Eject the SD Card (**This is an Important Step**) (5) Re-insert the SD card (6) Format the SD card using Windows Explorer - Right click on the SD card and select format - Set file system to FAT - Do not select Quick Format (7) Eject the SD Card In the above method, the Panasonic SDFormatter utility places the MBR in Sector-0 and Dos Boot Record following the MBR. With both the boot records intact, Windows will not alter the position of the boot records and will only initialize the FAT tables during formatting.
