Guest timking Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Apologies for new topic, but the question would be lost in the guide thread! First off top work Paul, worked spot on except for one bit for me and that's I have no data connection after doing all the above. No matter what I try it always tells me 'unable to connect, you need a network connection in order to..... etc. Wifi is off at present (not one around at work) and all the settings are to Vodafone as they should be. Can make/receive calls without issue. It's a fully unlocked phone so no idea why it's suddenly not able to connect data wise. This is the case whether I try to setup Exchange, browse the web or open Facebook etc. Any ideas please anyone? Cheers
Guest dunbad Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Yeah I think you've hot an issue that desire owners have (rooted or unrooted) and that's loosing data connection. Turn aeroplane mode on then off, you should be good. If not turn off, remove battery and turn back on. I gather its an issue with Android in general. If you look there are many posts on this issue on many different forums. And its very annoying! There are various work rounds I gather but no fixes.

Added one as below and all connected straight away : Name : Vodafone APN : Internet Username : web Password : web I'm just curious if you had your SIM card inside your phone when you installed the generic ROM. Does this have any effect on how the phone detects APNs? When I reset the APNs on my phone with provider software, they all just come back automatically. How does the phone know how to do that?

Guest lanxton Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 It reads infos from the installed SIM. You don't have to remove it while flashing, rooting, etc. Does the RUU read info from the SIM during the ROM update process? I have a feeling that the RUU must use some info from the SIM during the update process if people are reporting additional software being installed on the phone when the SIM is inserted while doing it. But, the question is what exactly is different. I think that depends on the provider. Are you saying that if I run the RUU while I have my SIM in the phone, then I do not have to manually enter the APN?

No. I have a feeling that the RUU must use some info from the SIM during the update process if people are reporting additional software being installed on the phone when the SIM is inserted while doing it. That happens when searching for apps into the Market, not while flashing a ROM. No. I'm saying that you don't have to manually input APNs if your SIM is installed when the Desire makes its first boot, going through the initial configuration wizard. Again, flashing and dealing with the SIM card are unrelated worlds.

Guest FrostSunsh1ne Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 I have the same issue after rooting my Desire :/ Turning on and off the aeromode doesen't help, neither removing the battery... The apn-settings are right, becuase they work on my old SE. So has anybody an idea what I can do more?

I find that switching off and on again "Mobile network" in "Wireless & networks" settings sub-menu usually reenables data connection. Btw, do any of you know what the "Enable always-on mobile d..." thing does ?
Guest alansg Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 Hi, have encounter this problem. Any help from experienced users? I tried all ways such as restart device / turn on and off aeroplane mode but it still doesn't work. Much appreciated.
Guest Renz33 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 same problem,no data connection after rooting, im thinking to return my desire for warranty claim, hopefully i can get a new replacement. But of course,if thrs a fix for this i would choose not to,i;ve got froyo 2.2 on my htc desire now n im loving it.
Guest battletank Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I've mentioned this elsewhere, but if you have the SwitchPro widget, one of the recent releases has data connection switched off by default, even if you don't have the data connection button enabled. You have to add the button, switch data on, then remove the button to fix this.
