If you use OpenVPN Settings you can add a custom dns for the openvpn configuration. Long press your config in the first menu and use Preferences. There's the option "Use VPN DNS Server" and "VPN DNS Server".

Thanks Richard, yep couldn't find this option but now works like a treat :)

Guest Kevin Xiong

it does not work in legend, can any one provide a tun.ko for legend, thanks a lot.

Copy the update to your sdcard and apply the update with the recovery-console (sudo ./step2.sh from latest method)

You need OpenVPN Settings from the market (Friedrich Schauffelhut) and load the module from the following location: /system/lib/modules/tun.ko (see attached screenshots).

There's a different kernel in Modaco Custom Rom so we need a new module version. (2.6.29-82821fb5).

Openvpn from MCR kitchen lacks some cypher-algo's so i couldn't use that. I excluded the busybox binary from the mcr update.

If any of you have dns problems please use the "OpenVPN settings" provided setting for that:

Long press your connection config and change the Preferences.

happy tunneling.

HTC Desire stock kitchen = vpnupdatedesire_2.6.29-97da29ed-signed.zip

MCR kitchen (dont use openvpn from kitchen) = vpnupdatedesire_2.6.29-82821fb5-signed.zip

uvoc kernel version = vpnupdatedesire_uvoc-signed.zip

Yes, no problem.

Hi,

I have installed the MCR 3.1 (with additions and A2SD+) : http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...online-kitchen/

Everything worked fine except Openvpn.

I just installed tun.ko from this thread : vpnupdatedesire_2.6.29-82821fb5-signed.zip

When I try to use Openvpn setting (or using adb shell), I have the following messages :

# /system/xbin/openvpn --config marax-android_2010_1.ovpn

/system/xbin/openvpn --config marax-android_2010_1.ovpn

# insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko

insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko

insmod: can't insert '/system/lib/modules/tun.ko': invalid module format

I also have an explicit message on dmesg :

tun: version magic '2.6.29-82821fb5 preempt mod_unload ARMv7 ' sh

ould be '2.6.29-bravo-mck-r1 preempt mod_unload ARMv7 '

and finally a uname -a shows me :

uname -a

Linux localhost 2.6.29-bravo-mck-r1 #2 PREEMPT Fri May 21 11:23:48 BST 2010 armv

7l GNU/Linux

I also tried another tun.ko module from WDA but didn't find one which has the '2.6.29-bravo-mck-r1 preempt mod_unload ARMv7 ' signature. I also didn't find a "how-to" to myself create a tun.ko for the Modaco Rom 3.1.

Please, can someone provide me the right tun.ko driver ?

Many, many thanks in advance.

Did you try using the tun.ko from the r3.1 update, thar driver loads just fine:

# insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko

# lsmod

tun 11200 0 - Live 0xbf031000

bcm4329 189976 0 - Live 0xbf000000

Hi,

No.

But does that mean that we must use the tun.ko already included in MCR3.1 (r3.1 ROM with default MoDaCo additions and A2SD+) and the openvpn binary provided by Richard on this post (vpnupdatedesire_2.6.29-82821fb5-signed.zip) ?

If this is the case, I will try to do it this evening, I don't know yet how ... But I will try.

I will keep you informed about the result.

Thks

I got this working, see other thread http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&amp...t&p=1303426

Edit: Not sure if we could just copy the correct tun.ko into Richard's zip and then flash with that? Or are these .zip files signed?

Good evening,

I'm an idiot, I forgot my USB cable at work.

I have modified the zip file from Richard replacing his tun.ko by the one extracted from the zip file from Paul.

I will test it tomorrow, at work .... and will keep you informed.

Not sure if this has to be fixed or what, but on my MCR I had to repush tun.ko from the MCR ROM after applying your update.

Other than that seems to be working well!

Ok, I can get openvpn working by running "insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko" in a terminal when running normally, but I need to run this after startup every time to get it to work.

I tried running this command in recovery mode, but all I get is: "insmod: can't insert '/system/lib/modules/tun.ko': invalid module format"

So I was wanting to try to run the script at startup, so I put in in init.d/90fixes but that didn't seem to work.

Any ideas?

Also getting this error in the logs:

OpenVPN-DaemonMonitor[/sdcard/openvpn/client.ovpn]-daemon-stdout( 1053): Mon Jun 28 12:37:41 2010 Note: Cannot open TUN/TAP dev /dev/tun: No such file or directory (errno=2)

UPDATE

Adding "insmod /system/lib/modules/tun.ko" to the startup script does seem to work, I just forgot to set it as executable.

Try the steps I've documented here: http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desi...1/#entry1325065 (Pulled from this and other topics)
