Can you install Google Car Home and Voice Dialer on rooted device?

Hi there

I'm interested in having both Google Car Home and Voice Dialer on my Desire. I've rooted it and also installed voice search but this isn't the same as the voice dialer.

I've seen both these apps are available in CyanogenMod v5.0.6 online kitchen for Desire (test r1) but after a lot of searching I can't find any way to install them individually.

I don't want to have to reflash my device with a custom ROM as I'm very happy with how it is already.

Can anybody help?

You can install both on a Desire that is not rooted!

I continued to search and found this guide. I've just installed and I've now got Car Home.

Does anybody have a link to a guide telling me how to get Google Voice Dialer installed?

When I try and voice dial, I get add number or Google tries to search my contact? Does anyone have a fix?

Worked out why this is happening, your numbers need to be in Google contacts.

You need this

Just delete the zip part , place on your sd card and install

VoiceSearch_2.1.apk.zip

Thanks for your response but I already have voice search installed and also the modified HTC IME input method by jonasl (version 25) but this isn't the same as the Voice Dialer that paul has a screen grab of.

I have tried using the quick search and the search in the car home app but but both just seem to send me onto a google results page and not to my contacts even when the wors spoken matches a contact name. I know I can click on contacts and then click on the voice search button but this is fiddly when in my car.

Maybe I'm looking for something that doesn't exist. I'm just confused that Paul has it as an option in his ROM kitchen and nobody else seems to know what I'm talking about.

Paul can you shed any light on this?

I've also seen the HTC Navigator Panel now which looks better that the car home app, anybody know where the install for this is or am I pushing my luck now :P

Hi Kearnage,

Did you solve the Voice dialer application for your HTC Desire? I have just ordered a HTC Desire, my first smartphone, and have very similar requirements.

If you have sorted things out would you please advise on the where, when and how (to install).

Not sure about that specific app - it's liklely unique to Cyanogen's ROM (which I haven't yet tried). Voice dialing works fine on my Desire though with Voice Search 2.1 installed - just have to say "Call [name]". If you don't precede the name with the command it will just search though.
