First of all, I have Lioryte's 23551 installed on my phone, but I don't think it's a rom problem so I decided to make a new thread

Here's my issue, when using google maps to locate my position using GPS, it doesn't ever find a connection. However, I can connect to gps satellites using iGo8 in about two minutes just fine. If I don't exit igo, I can then use google maps, but as soon as I edit igo, the gps connection dies for google maps, and sometimes I get an error message in google maps saying it can't even find the gps port or something like that (when i try to reconnect to the satellites)

I wouldn't mind doing this, except igo takes forever to load and I don't really wanna use it anymore. I think I remember seeing a program somewhere that showed you what satellites you were connected to, the accuracy, and connection strength, as well as stayed in contact with the satellites even if I wasn't using mapping software, and took little memory to run. also, if you lost the connection (if you go inside or something) it would automatically try to connect when there was a signal again. I can't remember the name and have no idea where to look or what to search for, but I'm looking for something like I described

also, all the gps settings are default (managed by windows)

any ideas?

EDIT: the reason I don't want to just use google maps and keep that open (if I ever get it working on its own) is because I want to be able to use other programs (such as foursquare, or bing) and have my location ready when I open the program. not just google maps

I think you might be talking about GPS Keep Alive.

thanks!

Is it just me or is the GPS on the omnia subpar? It seems like my friends (who have androids) can connect in no time and can even keep a connection inside

i have my eye on the Incredible..the gps issue is pretty much a deal breaker for me with this phone

That brick probably has a bigger GPS receiver thus better performance. The GPS in Omnia works pretty good but you have to tweak it with the "GPSLOCKFIX" (search for it here) and maintain the lock via "GPSKeepAlive" or "GPSTouggle" (both can be found here as well).
