Guest VeeDubZ Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 I seem to be unable to turn the WiFi on or off since root and applying the modaco custom rom and apps2sd , on a good note everything else is working perfectly and I'm showing 128mb of space after all my apps are installed. Any hints on getting the WiFi back? Big thanks to Paul for the work he is putting in..
Guest Conz Posted May 7, 2010 Report Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) Having same issue, initially I had this with the gsm wireless data connection not wanting to come up, it took like 10 minutes and then it started on its own. It just tells me 'unable to start wifi' the gsm data was actually 'trying to start data something' (the something as i dont know what its called in english, mine is dutch :P) Edited May 7, 2010 by Conz

It just tells me 'unable to start wifi' the gsm data was actually 'trying to start data something' (the something as i dont know what its called in english, mine is dutch :P) Mine was "unable to start wifi" everytime i've tried to flash dalvik cache to sd update. Finally intalled Pays rom witch includes apps2sd but without dalvik moved over so I flashed MoDaCo's dalvik to sd (fresh one) it gave me an error of symlinks but it works. Before I tried to flash dalvik to sd update one and it was braking my wifi. So fresh one and dont care of error. Edited May 8, 2010 by Too51oll
Guest Conz Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 hm anyone have any ideas on possible fixes other then re-flashing the device ? I already went 'yaay! new phone!' and installed a heap of apps after the app2sd started to work :P
Guest Bakk15 Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 i'm in the same state as you. all was good until i installed this : r1-a2sd-desire-dalvik-upgrade-signed
Guest 1ns4nity Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Me too... wifi is not working with MCR and APP2SD update applied :P Luckily I can still survive without wifi for now... Sending SMSs via handcent is also not reliable.
Guest Bakk15 Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 i had wifi back by reput the PAYS rom... ( WIPE ALL, but i kept all my apps, i have to reinstall terminal ) but i have low memory when i want to install my app. i checked with the terminal, i have the path to sd data... wierd i reput dalvik fresh, i've got the simlink error and i ignore it just like said above. And now it worked
Guest oxyum Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Anybody who flash "r1-a2sd-desire-dalvik-upgrade-signed" must reflash his phones because that update install kernel without bcm4329.ko module at all. So WiFi never will work with that "update".
Guest 1ns4nity Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 What? You mean "r1-a2sd-desire-dalvik-upgrade-signed" will brick out WIFI permanently and we will need to do a wipe + reflash of MCR to get wifi working again?? :P

Guest Conz Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Ok im pretty new to android soo.. Is there any way to make a copy of the installed apps to restore at a later point ? And which posts do I need to follow to get the modaco custom rom to work together with app2sd ? Right now my android is in the 'bricked wifi' state with a working app2sd, so the sd card should not need re-partitioning etc right ?
Guest VeeDubZ Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Any update on a possible fix or solution? Could really do with the WiFi as its hammering my data lol

But if you really need that, than I can create update file with only fixed kernel in two days (may, 11).
Guest Conz Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Ok here is what i did to get it working with app2sd AND wifi. Made a backup of my apps with Astro file manager. Reflashed it with the modaco image, applied app2sd and that resulted in an infinite loop. wiped everything mentioned in the rooting guide. re-applied the r1 modaco image Made a backup of my SD from the recovery menu (you can make it act as a diskdrive from there) and repartitioned it, i was getting the impression that old files on the SD were causing issues. Copied my files back to the SD and applied the app2sd from XDA. Result: Everything peachy and a happy Conz with a Desire filled with apps :P

So WiFi never will work with that "update". Where did you hear that? That package is an update and doesn't reformat the system partition. AFAIK, if the existing ROM is OK, the r1-a2sd-desire-dalvik-upgrade-signed 'patch' won't break it. I have just tried (for about the 10th time) it and it works fine - A2SD, Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G all functioning as normal. I've never had the problems you guys are experiencing - see below: # lsmod bcm4329 189304 0 - Live 0xbf000000 I started with the original rootedupdate from Paul and then applied this patch.
Guest VeeDubZ Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 That could be why then, if your using the basic rootupdate and we are using the modaco custom Rom. I had it all working with that one too, its since changing to the mcr 1 that I've had the problem with wifi. Will give that a go Conz, and thanks for the replys peeps
Guest crisdo98 Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 yep, same issue here. Just cooked a rom without A2SD. Flashed xda A2SD after the flash. Everything is working perfect EXCEPT for the WiFi will not start issue :P

That update contains different kernel than MCR1, so it can't load module from MCR1. Also that package is uninstallble on MCR1 because it contains busybox already included into MCR1, but many people install that on his phones.

I did have to modify the update script and 'repackage' it to get it to work with a different ROM (EVIL ROM from XDA Devs, I think). I had to remove a bunch of symlinks or it would complain. I also had to remove the busybox binary as it was already in the ROM. After all that, A2SD failed anyway :P Im sticking with the original rootedupdate for now - seems like the safest option.
Guest VeeDubZ Posted May 11, 2010 Report Posted May 11, 2010 (edited) i can confirm that MCR r2 ROM with default MoDaCo additions and A2SD+ solves this problem Edited May 11, 2010 by VeeDubZ
